Record Store Day 2021

She got Dave Grohl which is why she went. For various folks and ourselves we also got Shea Serrano, Ron and Clint Howard, Stanley Tucci, and Kal Penn. It was a smaller list than usual for them but still some heavy hitters

My only big want is Mel Brook's memoir and I don't think it's out yet so decided to not deal with people.

Wow. Lack of enthusiasm here for sure. 8 people in line at open, 3 of whom were together and obvious flippers. I showed up right at open (9am) walked in grabbed the three I wanted plus two more, walked out and home before 9:30. Maybe ten people in the whole store when I left.

The owner of the store I was at said he was buying for the longer game as customers came later for things they heard about after the fact. Not sure how much of that was a front, got the feeling a bunch of these will be on discount in a few months while some of the smaller pressings are in high demand

I think the thin sheet from this round coupled with the multi “drop” burn out from the last years added to two more record stores opening in town all kind of contributed to to it here.

For the record, grabbed Isbell, Big Mama Thornton, Gun Club Live at Starwood, a reissue of the Gun Club EP (that I had ZERO idea was happening, so just got lucky there), and a Life Aquatic, despite my hatred for all things Wes it seemed interesting and I figured someone might be looking for it here because there was a lot of chatter.

I feel like the Thundercat will be a popular blind grab. Trendy name and stunning cover that stands out in person.

Played the ones my gf went for. The Weird Al is a fun listen on both sides, a lot of music in a maxi single. Joan Jett is kind of what you expect but the comics are nicely done (it’s a 45 with the larger spindle so the adapter was dug out). Munsters wasn’t anything special packaging wise, good if it’s something you’ve wanted novelty wise,

I’d be interested in your thoughts on Big Mama. That was a hard one to not pick up.

I like the Justin Time label, so I’m optimistic. Though I will say I really don’t even notionally like them tacking that stupid remix on to the album. Massive misstep. But I’ll report back once I give it a spin.

I definitely am looking for the Life Aquatic.

Not sure who else has mentioned it. I'll scan through
