RECORD STORE DAY 2022 - Those of us who can't make it and hoping for...

Anyone else who grabbed Jazz Dispensary from Good Records to Go may want to prepare themselves for a cancelled order. Apparently they're still for sale and will let you add as many as you want to cart for checkout.

it is vinyl cup's sister store. they are pretty new.

Yes. Store looks nice on-line pics. I have gotten a few things from them mailed. They could box much better and they have one if those BBW damage policies so I don’t use them as a first choice……

From Vinyl Cup policy page:

ONCE PURCHASED, you are agreeing to the following return policy:
We only accept returns on defective media. We will not accept returns for cover damage. We will ship out your record with 2 filler albums and a vinyl lp shipper. It may acquire corner dings, minor corner bends. We will not send out your product with substantial damage, if we feel it is substantial we will reach out to you. Again, there are NO RETURNS for cover damage, only media play defects. Do not purchase if you are very serious about a perfect cover, things happen.”

I don't blame them though to be honest. People can be pretty awful when it comes to any damage in transit, even if it's not the store's fault. I know a few shops who refuse to sell online anymore because people will get a record with the tiniest ding, demand a refund and issue a chargeback, which screws over the store. Or people return it and don't bother to package it properly so it arrives back to the store damaged even more.

I'm of the same mindset as them...if you buy stuff online there is always the possibility of a corner ding. if you don't want something that might have a corner ding or slight jacket damage, then don't order records online...especially with media mail shipping.

Obviously there are some exceptions like if they mail you a record in a plastic bag...but I let it slide if I get something in the mail with a corner ding as long as it looks like they packaged it well enough. I know I'm probably in the minority on that but...

That's my policy too. It's a hassle to deal with swaps and unless they clearly messed it up then I'm not gonna blame them. If I pay for insurance or premium shipping that's different. But media mail is a crap shoot and I'm fine with a corner ding at the end of the day.

It’s relative. If the store boxes Recs in such a way that damage is very rare then it is due to major gross mishandling in the mail. I seldom worry about minor damage in thus case.

But I would never pay full price for a new rec with more cover damage than it will have in the 20+ years in my rec room given a choice. I don’t like seam splits and dinged corners so I really try to buy from places that know how to box recs to min damage.

Sometimes from band sites for limited versions you are hoping for the best.

But, if a store boxes a $50 - $75 premium rec (like RSD Mingus or Evans) in an undersized 12x12 mailer with a couple light fillers than no. Normal bulk mail dings like the first drop or a toss into a sorting bin will have a high chance of corner dings and/or splits. In my opinion this is simply a result of poor packing and the store should accept the responsibility for the damage and make a real effort to learn how to ship vinyl safely. Because customer satisfaction builds ur reputation and returns/replacements are expensive and a hassle.

For anyone in SF, Tunnel Records has a couple copies of Art Pepper and Handsome Boy Modeling School on the shelves. I would have grabbed a copy for someone here but had the kids in tow in the way to the beach…
