Record Store Day 2025

P.S. It's an excellent entry in the Jazz Dispensary series. Completely different from the others. I really like the soul-jazz-funk of everything they've done so far (reminds me of the old Pulp Fusion series I loved so much), but this smooth evening jazz entry hits the spot. Sets a great mellow mood, as @Ghost mentioned. GZ did it, but pressing is fine too.

Yeah all of these comments are making me hope they make a standard black edition

I just looked and they’ve never done a repress of these compilations. There’s a first time for everything, but I don’t want anyone getting there hopes up.

I will say this, they seem pretty active on socials and pretty approachable - so maybe ask them about it?

Instead of buying a ton of RSD stuff this year I bought the 1 thing I wanted (Gorillaz) and then bought some non RSD stuff; FJM live at rough trade, the wax mage soul step, and the monophonics back catalog I needed to finish their discography. So I'm tapped out but will keep an eye out for this but in no rush to get it

Fuck yeah on Monophonics back catalogue!!! I’m only missing the couple of CD only releases. (Well and some 45s but I’m not really collecting those actively anymore because of more limited funds).

I grabbed Soul Slabs from Colemine and grabbed the most recent JD Henderson because sale and free shipping (and also because my shop stopped participating after lockdown.)

I've been chasing that FJM for years. Enjoy!!!

It's waiting at the post office for me. $60 off cogs sealed from a record stores account with 5,000 5 star reviews. Feeling lucky I was fast enough to get it.
I really hope there's a live album from his current tour in the works. Boston was probably the best show I've ever seen from him.
Very happy the Vault release is collected from JW's current tour. Between that and RSD25, this live album fan is downright spoiled.
Yeah I got him on this tour and they're firing on all cylinders right now

As the Jazz Dispensary series is concerned, which ones are more chill versus bop? Anyone know off hand that either owns or has heard them all?

Bid on the box set (non-RSD) last month but it wasn't accepted --- tend to favor chill jazz significantly more than hard bop or fusion.

Most are funk/soul focused, not jazz. I have seven of them, with eight on the way (Night Lights that I got luck w/ for $33 on Discogs), and closest to this year’s in terms of vibe would be Hotel Jolie Dame.

That said, which ones are definitely not chill?

Really don't have space in my archives for more jazz if it's not creating a mellow vibe.

Apologies for being slightly off topic.

They’re all (or mostly all) on Spotify w “jazz dispensary”
I do not have The Golden Hour from (2024), and that’s also chill but, again, none are jazz-focused like this year’s.

Sun Ra box arrived today. I needed 6 more Sun Ra discs like I needed a hole in my head, but it’s a nice package with an excellent/thorough booklet. It’s also important set from my perspective, so who am I not to do something foolish.
Seeing that at least 2 Sun Ra offerings are available every RSD and many of us buy them too, you are not alone in dedicating a whole Kallax to the man from Saturn.
There's a reason his discography is 850 pages long....

You are no fool sir.

Mine arrives today too!
As does Stray Voltage.
Which puts my Sun Ra collection (including comps, covers and tributes) up to 228.
(Probably at, or over, 250 when my non-Arkestra Marshall Allen, John Gilmore, Pat Patrick and Julian Priester stuff gets factored in)

Checked the Attleboro Newbury Comics while I was out and about today and they actually had the CVB in stock. Literally 15-20 records left. Pretty much everything for RSD is now funneled to the Norwood and Boston stores.

Incidentally, that mall is *dead*.
When Wetzel's Pretzels shuts down, just bulldoze it. I think there were 9 other people walking around when I was there.

There’s something calming about a dead mall
