Restocks/Represses

From what I recall AstronautSaints is a very small record store that had to come back from some major structural damage from a winter storm. I've had good experiences ordering, dude is probably dealing with the stress of being a RS owner plus the "well AKSUALLY" snark vibe of reddit

I wouldn't do well running a business catering to record collectors.
that was kind of the vibe i got too and told him no worries and i deleted my post about lower prices. it can be pretty easy to get worked up at people on the internet...i have ordered from him since with no issues.

This may be too much of a side-topic, but it's genuinely surprising to me how bad record stores on the whole are at the online experience, especially the social media realm. I know a lot of record store owners get into the business because they love music and know a lot about it and I never really called out AstronautSaint's reddit posts because I figured TTWD's point is about right. But I figured spamming r/vinyldeals with things that are not particularly deals would be "Don't Do This 101". Then getting angry at and confronting potential customers on there would be "Don't Do This 201".

It's definitely not unique to Astro though. I feel like even the smallest bit of pushback or suggestions turn into a thing with online records stores on social. There was one I had with a local store where they posted like a 100 character long non-clickable Spotify playlist link for a holiday. I had a back and forth on them how they can just link it in a story until they tried it, it worked, and they deleted the existence of the post. It's what impresses me about the Plaid Rooms of the world who can manage a great store and navigate the online discussion sphere really well.

Definitely agree. On a somewhat related note re: social media and record stores, it seems like one of the best ways to get people in your shop is to regularly post "new arrivals" flips on instagram. They always get me, but there's several shops near me that complain about not getting new customers or a regular stream and literally post maybe a few new restocks once a week. Yet they get some really great stuff in the shop.

Yup, my local does this and I have zipped right over and to pick stuff up immediately thereafter.

Yep--a few shops near me do it as well. The shop that has the best stuff though is about 45 minutes away so I can't really drive out every time I see great stuff. Probably best for my wallet though!

Plaidroom is also great at social media/using the internet to increase their customer base. Selling used stuff online is smart for them, having the weekly email restock list is really great as well. I definitely keep my eye out for their restock emails now and end up picking up quite a good amount from them.

I feel like we talked about this before but are you referring to Station One? If so, I have the same thought all the time. About 30 minutes away so not exactly a “hop in the car and go” shop.

BUUUUUUT the new firm I start at on Tuesday is 2 minutes away from them. Very dangerous.

that's the one! haha. they get some killer stuff in, don't seem to sell online or do holds but regularly post all the stuff they get in. I've probably been 4-5 times in the past year only but really wish I could get there more. they are pretty fair in my experience with buying records too.

good to know that i have a connect now when i see them post stuff I wanna buy! 😂

Yeah for real, it’s literally around the corner so I have a feeling I will be keeping an eye on their instagram more often haha. And certainly wouldn’t mind stopping for ya whenever. They get such good stuff, and their prices are always on the low end despite paying well for records. They’re pretty much the only spot I’ll bring stuff to and then spend two hours there re-spending the money lol

That other shop nearby is also fun to dig in (it's around the corner and a few blocks away). Overpriced mostly but I've found some good OOP stuff there. it seems like most people don't bother to dig there since it's a mess inside. I went a few months back and they had lots of the older RTI pressed Rhino and Sony Legacy records for not too bad a price. Picked up some Uncle Tupelo records for $25 each, some old jazz pressings and Eno records.

That place is wild! Really old school and so much stuff that’s been sitting there a loooooong time. Tons of $100/$200 records just sitting on the floor. Pretty nuts lol

DIIV - Oshin 10th anniversary press:

In case anyone's missed this one, it's a great pressing.

Welp, this is a bummer...I already had it on preorder a couple years ago and it never happened.

Here's the reply from Experience Vinyl when I inquired:

There is no release date from Warner Brothers just 2022, i think it will be bumped to next year.

Would like to cancel /refund or hold order
