Rock, Alt-Rock, Indie Rock, Psych Rock, Shoegaze, Punk, Noise Rock, Emocore, etc.

Sorry but you have to read the ramblings of an old man before you get to the meat of this post.

Barnard's Star 25th anniversary reissue.

Highly obscure late 90s ambient shoegaze from New Zealand is being reissued. Think a less abrasive Bailter Space

Serendipity is a crazy thing. I am a big fan of the Flying Nun label out of New Zealand and get their weekly email blasts. I probably quickly look at every 4th or 5th email, usually if I recognize the name of the band in the subject line.

For some reason I decided to open up this week's email even though there was nothing compelling me to. Quickly scanning the email my attention was drawn to an album cover. Reading the little blurb intrigued me.

The band and the release is so obscure they barely have a presence online. Originally released only on cd in 1998, it last had a sale on Discogs in 2019. Billed originally as an ep (though 45min), it is being re-issued on Flying Nun in December. Thankfully it is streaming on Apple Music and Spotify as well if you want to check it out.

But wow, I have listened to the album 4 times in the last 24 hours. This is something I have not done in years. Really hits that shoegaze sweet spot for me.

This is fantastic. Does this stuff usually get sold in North America, or is this just a shipping from there thing. Wouldn't mind getting a little cheaper shipping if I pick it up.

Not sure. I thought at first Flying Nun was reissuing it but they are only distributing it. It is on Leather Jacket Records. Once the postal strike ends up here I might just bite the bullet and buy it direct. If I see it anywhere in North America I will tag you.

Right on, thanks!

i’m in the minority that finds this band’s earlier material much more compelling than the last few efforts, but you can’t deny their influence on the ‘gaze resurgence over the last decade.

Oooh Is this a new album from them?

Also Pipe Dreams is goated. I really like Sway when it came out. I saw them live that year but then that was soon before they got canceled.
