September 2020 Challenge Thread- The Gav-La’s

Its a tricky one to find for sure, especially considering it was a Japanese only release. I just checked my emails to see when I got this and it was the beginning of 2017. It was an ebay win and I think I was the only bidder as it came to £9.90.

Just seen this as well, Smile (Early Queen) - Gettin’ Smile - Japanese Album with Insert (6 tracks) | eBay with an offer option, so might be worth sending the seller one. £30 is already a decent price looking at discogs, I bet you could get it for £25. Just doesnt have the OBI, but apart from that it appears decent.

Shall have a perusal

Day 5: “Box Set Weekend pt 1”
My internet has been down pretty much since Thurs night so I’m playing catch-up now

U2- Joshua Tree anniversary box set. I bought this solely for the 2 LP pressing of the 9.28.87
show at Madison Square Garden, which was my third U2 gig. Have had an audience recording bootleg of it for years, but was thrilled to get it on wax.

Day 6: “Box Set Weekend pt 2”

Chris Cornell - Deluxe box set. Wouldn’t buy this when it was originally released because of strong feelings I have about Chris’s widow and her money grabbing lawsuits, so when a used copy appeared at my fave local store with all but one LP sealed, I snatched it up. Was in attendance at the Beacon Theatre show where “One“ was recorded.

Day 6 - Box Set Part 2

Led Zeppelin - How the West Was Won

I grew up listening to The Song Remains the Same and some bootleg live LPs so I was pretty excited to finally grab a boxset of this newer release of live Zep. It's pretty good overall, nice selection of songs. And just when I didn't think I wanted to hear yet another version of Whole Lotta Love, there's a pretty sweet one on here.

Drum note
My biggest inspiration as a young drummer was Bonzo, no question. He was my teacher - I'd slide the stereo speakers to each side of my kit, run over and drop the needle, turn it way up, and sit down and play along to so much of their catalog...to the best of my ability anyway. Bonham is definitely my favorite rock drummer ever.

Day 7

Economy Plays

The first time I saw Punch Brothers Live was in Boone. Aoife O’Donovan opened that evening which my introduction to her, then they started their set with Another New World, the first track here. I’ve been a fan if Josh Ritter since. Bought the CD version of Aoife’s Fossils and this that evening.

Have I missed a UK / US translation divide or have you gone thru life believing EP stands for Economy play ?

Edit : Would make for a fun discussion actually.

Day 7: “Mini maxi “ play a Mini lp or maxi single/EP type thing

Tears for Fears - Ready Boys & Girls?

This is a fantastic little 10” of Tears for Fears covering Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, and Hot Chip. The band really took the source material and made it their own, they are both unique and faithful covers at the same time.
This record is pretty cheap in Discogs and highly recommended for fans of any of the four bands involved

These themes have been making me rip open some shrink wrap. This particular one was a blind buy: 2 dollar base price discounted further with a likely expired coupon on the inside from an artist I do like. Let's roll.
