Is anyone experience intermittent slowness or unexpected database errors?

I have seen it a couple times this morning and wanted to see if others are experience this as well.

Seems to be working just fine for me. I was experiencing slowness on Thursday night, but my network was the issue.

I did. White error page. But it resolved itself in minutes. Don't know if there was a lot traffic that day or what.

I have to do some investigation. While member traffic hasn't changed, I have been going through the server error logs this morning and have found that the database errors have been triggered by "too many connections".

We have also had this error occur just over 1300 times over the last week.

Too many people posting at the same time?

I remember it happening while we were discussing wine in the Café.

Right now, this level of traffic is actually pretty high for us. I think at least half of those guests our robots.

Our current configuration allows for 120-150 maximum concurrent connections. So, that's 120-150 queries running concurrently. I can guarantee that not everyone is running a query at the same time, whether that be loading a thread page or posting. I forget if the Who's Online is a snapshot of 10 minute or 15 minutes and shows anyone who had activity during that timeframe.

No issues right now with too many connections, so I'm really curious to se who high these levels need to go before we start getting the errors.

The last "too many connections" error was logged Saturday night at 9:00pm Eastern time.

Well that's your problem right there. You're not using dark mode 😂.

But in all seriousness, why are we getting bots? Tracking data and stuff? We're a small forum. There's nothing interesting to farm here. (That I know of at least).

I have to admit that I'm very ignorant about the complexities of running a site like this. But I'm open to learn if there's something I can do to help.

If you go here are you able to see the bots on the who's online list?

It's mostly search engines, Google, Bing and so on. Also one I haven't heard of before called "Pedals Search"

But also Amazon and Apple bots.

Essentially they are trying to index our site so it comes up on search engines, or in the case of Amazon and Apple, train their services based off of content on the internet. If you click on the bot name it tells you what it does.

i get lag when opening and viewing profile posts via the three dot 'interact' button from the home page, and even text entry is slow when i'm responding.

There is still some occasionally slowness like this, I even had safari unable to load the website for awhile yesterday by had no issues with Chrome.

Some good news at least, we haven't had a too many connections error since 9:00pm on Saturday night.

This is the error that resulted in the following error / blank page being displayed to users:
