Television

Oh yeah. I actually haven’t watched any of The Deuce yet, but even Treme had a lot going for it, when it didn’t get lost in watching musicians play for minutes at a time. There’s a place for that, but it got tedious sometimes and occasionally made it feel like the show didn’t have enough of a narrative to fill its runtime.

I really wanted to love Treme.. it's about an area and musical scene I'm very interested in and it was just.. too.. self indulgent? Maybe that's the right word. I'm not even sure I watched all of it cause at some point I just stopped caring if I saw episodes or not and then just kinda tuned out.

The Deuce is/was fantastic although I have only seen season 1. Black Thought as a pimp!

Sopranos is still number one for me. I loved The Wire but I've never felt inclined to watch it a second time. Sopranos I've done three times and love it just as much every sitting. Flawless for me, including the ending.

I keep thinking Westworld has potential. I liked a good bit of what season 1 was trying to do, but it was still not completely compelling. Season 2 same thing. But finally, season 3 looks much better. Maybe, just maybe, this will be the season where it really nails it.

Probably not though, but I'll still watch.

Deadwood is great but it's abrupt ending / huge buildup for the next season means it doesn't rate as a top series for me. Maybe the movie will fix that but we'll have to wait and see.
I guess, much like The Wire, I just love the dialog and acting so much I can watch some scenes over and over. But I agree, its ending was too abrupt. I kinda think I won't be satisfied with just a movie. (But I'll watch it of course)

I'm also of the school of thought that Better Call Saul is a better show than BB.

BCS has really hit its stride, I absolutely love it. It's shot so well at times, it's just a pleasure to watch. When BCS is all done it very well might take the spot from BB on my list. Or, I may just call it one big show with a name change.

I loved season 1.. like.. to me, season 1 is top tier television. Season 2... ehhh.. they got too caught up trying to out-think their audience rather than giving us a compelling story.

I mostly like what season 1 was doing, like the story it was telling, and the climax. But it didn't feel completely perfectly put together episode to episode. I only watched it the one time when it aired though, which was several years ago now...

I’m just hoping that Mr. Robot can make good on the promise of its first season and bring in a strong finale. I still want for there to have been some sort of master plan we can’t quite see yet instead of weirdness for the sake of weirdness. I know I’ll probably be disappointed, but I still want it.
I've loved every season of Mr. Robot. But with the way season 3 ends, I am left more unsure of how this is going to wrap up in a satisfying way within one season. I'm really excited about it, but I'm trying to go in with some slightly lowered expectations. By the way, has there been a release date set yet?

I agree on the Deadwood thing.. it introduced me to Ian McShane so I will always be grateful for that.

As far as BCS goes.. it really benefits from the world built in Breaking Bad so it will be hard to separate them in the future. I just think that in a cast of characters like Gus, Saul, Mike, and all the various Cartel dudes are far more interesting characters than Walter White or Jessie Pinkman ever were.

I think The Sopranos was closer than Breaking Bad in terms of quality in comparison to The Wire. I'm also of the school of thought that Better Call Saul is a better show than BB.

Let's just say that I think The Wire would be respected by a much bigger demographic if all seasons were like season 2
Yea I have BB above the Sopranos by a hair and above BCS by a decent margin. As great as BCS is, most of its points of reference are built off of BB, so for that alone I could never put BCS ahead of BB

Westworld S1 was good, but not great, and S2 was pretty bad. Theyve hooked me with that S3 trailer tho, so here's hoping for the best.

I know this is an impossible question to answer but what would have made it great instead of good in your eyes?

The music placement is so perfect.. the scene that goes with this music is just.. phenomenal..

Or maybe it was all the mdma I was doing at the time?

Anyone done the second season of American Gods? We loved the first season but it was such a long gap between we've struggled to find the desire to jump back in just yet.

Same boat. Not sure I'm really that interested in it since Bryan Fuller's departure but I will probably check it out.

I like what they were trying to do I just didnt like the way they went about it. The story was consistently getting in it's own way, and felt like they were trying to outsmart the viewer in a way that just fell flat imo.

The music in Westworld is on point I'll give them that.

I'm so old and out of touch now that I learn about dope 'new' songs from television shows. Paak's Come On Down (from Iron Fist), that song from Rich & Marty, etc.. 20 year old me would be ashamed.

I basically feel the same about Westworld. I think @gouis once said (in reference to Westworld) "it thinks a lot smarter than it is" and I couldn't agree more

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Westworld. The themes are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of existential philosophy, most of those themes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Robert's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Zarathustrian literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these themes, to realise that they're not just motifs- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Westworld truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Robert's existential catchphrase "These violent delights have violent ends," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as not-Christopher-Nolan's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Westworld tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

Same boat here. I read the entire book in just about a week and was so ready for season one. Ended up liking it, not loving it. Then this long gap happened, and Fuller left the show, and so now season two is here (or is it over already?) and I just haven’t felt compelled to watch it yet. Maybe one day. But at the moment, the idea doesn’t even excite me.
