The Blue Note Thread

This may have been asked a gazillion times, but I'll shoot anyway: What's the general opinion on blue label records with the big "B" logo? I'm looking for a copy of the Charles Tolliver @mitchwagz and I talked earlier, and one of the Discogs sellers is selling a blue label copy of Speak Like a Child too. Do they sound better than, say, a BN75? Is $15 a good price for a VG+ copy?

Some of those have the RVG stamp = good. Most without the stamp - pass. Better off with a new BN75.

$15 is a decent price if it does have a Van Gelder stamp and it is actually in VG+ condition. You’ll probably save on shipping too! I wouldn’t pay much more for that particular title though. OGs go for $20-30 in that condition. I kind of have a feeling that we might be getting that title in the HH box too or at least I’m hoping so. I want a copy but just haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
 
I have now finished my Blue Note Challenge series on Instagram, with the final selection being in the LT series. Looking through the series list I realised just how many have been released as Tone Poets (I counted 5) which made the selection process that more tricky. I think I'm happy with my final choice, although there's plenty that I cut out which could easily have been included.

How's that pressing of Sonic Boom? I was hoping it would be reissued as a Tone Poet, but sadly not in the line-up this year. So I was thinking I might pick the 1979 issue up, even though the cover is hideous.

Not bad actually. I was hoping that the Tone Poets reissued Sonic Boom, Taru, Tom Cat or Infinity, although they are tackling The Rajah which should be good. This pressing is certainly not as good as a Tone Poet would of been, but the session itself is solid and overall im happy with it (only cost me a few quid as well which is good).

Thats really strange, especially considering its one of his most well known albums. Could it just be because Jimmy Smith albums tend to be easy to find at a low price anyway? The first mono press of this only goes for around the £20 mark, with lots available on Discogs.
 
Hey guys, this might cause a bit of a stir but I wondered what you guys thought about this video. Essentially this guys seems to be a record store owner that has been buying MM since the beginning (both as a listener and distributer) and has basically had enough of their 'limited' pressings and price increases. He does say a TON of positive things about MM, but the gist of it is that he thinks they are drip feeding releases in order to raise the demand, and in turn raising the price themselves.

I dont have any MM pressings as shipping to the UK ect is crazy, but I have seen them go for more than an original pressing which blows my mind. I know a lot of people here love them, so wondered what you though of this guys views?

Well this is what brought me here. Its actually in this forum where I remember seeing people unhappy, I believe its one of those cases (much like the recent VMP Swaps) where they know they wont have enough stock to satisfy everyone on release day and it becomes a mad rush to buy them at an inflated price.
