The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

I really like Quboz by the way. I could not tell a difference between files mars HD on both it and Amazon. However, the interface with Bluos while clunky is far superior to the Amazon interface. Plus I really like the mobile app and their whole approach. I went ahead and put in a cancellation on Amazon.

They’re a really great company, They’re a long long way clear on the royalties they pay and I think €149.99 for a year on the full studio plan is a fantastic deal too.

A couple of tweaks to the usability and I’d be happy to have them as my streaming provider indefinitely.

Yea I think bandcamp and Qobuz pay the most royalties last I checked. I’m all in on Qobuz (and Apple Music for the car…) unlike Joe, my car is too old for CarPlay so doesn’t bother me much that Siri doesn’t work with Qobuz haha.

Yeah I drive a lot in inner city traffic. I absolutely refuse to my eye of the road to pick music on the touchscreen so Siri support given that I have CarPlay since I got the new wheels a couple of years back is an absolute must.

my amp/dac for my 6XX (ifi hipdac) finally broke after about 2 years. turns out I'm able to run them through my laptop no problem but it still feels like somethings missing without the amp.. any recommendations for something portable (as in able to use on a bed with a laptop) that can drive 6XX, I heard on some forums that source doesn't matter and just using an apple dongle or my laptop will work just fine because of sensitivity but I still wonder if I need a dac and amp because of sound quality differences

If it works without an amp, then you don't need one. You can always get different sound from a dac. There are lots of portable options. I believe these things are fairly well liked:
Amazon product ASIN B07574DXHT

maybe.. i dunno what i'd want.. i heard things that vary from the dragonflys are overpriced to "they are the best thing you can buy for under 300 bucks"... and some say just use an apple dongle

I'll do my own research and figure out..t but who knows what I'll buy... i might have some money leftover in december to buy a good portable

These portable DACs are not my jam, but I did see this positive review today.

I installed a Sony head unit in my Toyota with android auto.
Has Qobuz app. I can either stream from the cell coverage or download music to my phone prior to leaving.
The android auto platform is pretty awesome.

Is anyone else rocking that around here? I'll be interested in what you think. Might get one of these for an office set up eventually.
I’ll be interested to see how it goes. It’s not getting played through an amazing amp, so I might not be the best judge. First impressions look good - it’s very light, though.

That’s feedback that would be helpful because if I build an office set up it will either be my old amp which is a pos or powered speakers. Everyone seems to love them though.

Yeah. I’ve got one. It’s totally decent. Easy to set up, app isn’t offensively clunky, no drop outs from the network so far. I’m not using the internal dac though as I’ve gone straight in to the one in my amp.

For the money I’ve no issues. Would buy again for sure
