The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

Well, I'm running an Arcam 550, which is a fairly pricy AVR and when I A-B'd it the BlueSound won. But I think we discussed this earlier on here with actual specifics of the type of DAC. I don't think it would actually be hard to outdo the DAC with an external from what I recall HOWEVER the issue then is you still need the Roon functionality Bluetooth blah blah blah and all the other stuff the Node does aside from just being a DAC.

True but if you still use the node but bypassing it’s DAC by using a digital coax cable to an external DAC you would still be getting all its streamy networky good stuff but using the DAC of the other bit. I think you’d want to be spending more than the bluesound again or have an amp/preamp with a really good dac in it to be beating the bluesound though.

You know, I think I'm wrong. I think this is the 3rd gen Node. I just assumed because when I went to buy it, I was searching for the 2i and this is what came up when bluesound's site said they were out of stock.
So, cool, I stumbled into it
You're good either way, many of us have the 2i still and have no need or urge for upgradeitus. You can always add a external dac down the road if your feel to upgrade the sound on either model. Only thing to be aware of if it was a 2i is that you got it for a cheaper price as they were $100 off

Well yes but I was assuming that the option was going to be, buy Node or buy better DAC, not buy both MR FANCY LAWYER MONEYBAGS

im surprised that after 7 months spotify has literally given us no hifi news.... they literally have my immediate buy when they give more details and especially a release date because i love things like the spotify unwrapped and how it has so much music even more than tidal (qobuz is taking baby steps by having distrokid support but certain bandcamp releases that id have to pay a lot to buy individually are still off)... spotify is basically the only big streaming service besides youtube that is still lossy only

It's almost like they made a knee-jerk announcement in response to Apple.

I get the impression that neither them or Apple really have their heart in hi res either. It’s more that it’s a line they can use to make it sound to their customers like they’re not falling behind in light of the increasing visibility of the two audiophile one and the recent developments with Amazon/Deezer.

Annoyance here with my new car is that Qobuz apparently has a dogshit CarPlay app and no Siri integration and that tidal is similar. It would be nice to have an app that had hi res, all the convenience features and widespread and straightforward wireless integration into a hifi set up.

I just hope since Spotify is late to the party, that the labels are trying to scratch a bit more lucre out of them. Not that the artists would see any of it. More like watching sharks fight sharks as they all try to get to the chum in the water.

The labels likely couldn’t give a shit so long as their share is maintained. As usual it’ll be the artists that get screwed! I think Spotify’s user base will allow them to bully the lowest price on the market regardless of how late they’ve come to it.

I know it’s not a smart app, but my Fiesta played FLACS out of the USB port. Worked for me as I had all of my CDs ripped, but I eventually gave up and moved to Spotify. My Fiesta was an ‘18 model, so probably should still work for you.
