Welcome to the February 2024 Record Challenge Thread – Silver Screen Edition Part Deux!
I had another idea I was going to run with, but I had so many unused movies on the list from last year I decided to take it further and deeper this year. This year’s list, like last year’s, isn’t ranked in any way. I’m just kinda riffing on some favorites of mine and hopefully yours.
The “rules” are typical: Play an album that goes with the prompt. Or you can play the soundtrack to the movie, or play an album with a song from the movie, or make your own connection to the prompt and post away. Have fun with it. Try not to repeat, but there are no penalties, and there are no limitations on the type of media that can be posted – cassettes, CDs, streams are all fine as usual.
Also, I’d love to hear if you’ve seen the movie, if you like the movie, or any other feedback you have.
I’ll post seven per week, except the final week of the month I’ll post eight. (It’s a leap year)
Also, fyi; I’ll be out of town for the beginning of the month, so after Friday I won’t be checking back in until mid-week next week.
Get yer records and your popcorn and enjoy the show!
Now Playing
Thursday February 1st
The Princess Bride
Miracle Max: "Have fun storming the castle!"
When I did the first version of this challenge last year, in hindsight I couldn't believe I didn't have this movie in my first 30 choices. This is one of the best (and most quotable) movies ever. I went with the castle quote because it's probably the one my wife and I use most. But there are SO many others.
Play something about castles or with medieval leanings
OR
Play anything this quote or movie brings to mind.
Friday February 2nd
Groundhog Day
Phil: "Well it's groundhog day....again."
Fitting for this day on the calendar.
Play one of your most spun records, whether currently or all-time
OR
Play anything this quote or movie brings to mind.
Saturday February 3rd
Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump: "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get"
I figured it was either that quote or Run, Forrest!
Play an eclectic album or a compilation
OR
Play anything this quote or movie brings to mind.
Sunday February 4th
Psycho
Norman Bates: "We all go a little mad sometimes, haven't you?"
My wife has actually never seen this movie, so it's going on the 'watch soon' list, as I could use a rewatch too.
Play something by an artist with a certain madness about them
OR
Play anything this quote or movie brings to mind
Monday February 5th
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Ferris Bueller: "Live moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you might miss it."
The iconic line from the iconic movie. I just recently watched a fan theory video that postulates that Cameron is the center of the film, and Ferris is a figment of his imagination. It's the Ferris Fight Club Theory.
Play something you'd spin if you decided to shirk any Monday responsibilities you have/play hooky
OR
Play anything this quote or movie brings to mind.
.
Tuesday February 6th
The Player
Griffin Mills: "I was just thinking what an interesting concept it is to eliminate the writer from the artistic process"
I played the crap out of my VHS copy of this, not sure I've seen it since those days, maybe worth a re-watch.
'I was just thinking what an interesting concept it is to eliminate the writer from the...' - The Player
Play something by an artist or album you like, but wish had better writing
OR
Play anything this quote or movie brings to mind.

Best in Show
Harlan Pepper (quoting his mother) "Would you stop namin' nuts!"
I'm always amazed and entertained by Christopher Guest; how well he just melts into the characters he plays is just fantastic
- YouTube
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Play something that has a lot of different pressings
OR
Play anything this quote or movie brings to mind.
