The football thread RenegadeMonster is looking for: NFL talk

7-9 and 5-11 are not great records but they aren’t dumpster fires either. Spurrier heart wasn’t in it but Meyer was an embarrassment AND a terrible coach.

It wasn't so much the records as to expectations. Spurrier was supposed to be our savior and the run and gun offense was supposed to take the league by storm. Then he brings in a bunch of FL QBs he coached previously, failed, and quietly walked away back to the college ranks. Plus there was all of the in-fighting (which is a common thread since Snyder took over). But you're right, he's nowhere near on the level of Meyer haha

Urban Meyer, Chip Kelly, Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, Greg Schiano. The list of college coaches that were gonna be save the franchise and ended up sulking back to College but is long. It seems like very few have managed to be great at both. Pete Carroll is about the only one that has really been exceptional at both levels (and he started off in the NFL).

Glad to see covid is ravaging the browns lineup..onto our 3rd string qb now. If we were the ravens the nfl would push it back (like last year) but goodell is a douche

Pro Sports are all pretty fucked right now by covid. NBA, NHL, and NFL are all have significant issues. I just heard They are going Without a fans for tonight’s Montreal Canadian’s game. The Bulls didn’t play games for almost a week since their entire team was positive. I wonder if this is the Omicrom variant running rapid? Most of these cases are asymptomatic and most of the players are vaxxed. Seems like sports are kind of the canary in the coal mine with covid outbreaks.

Not to turn this into the COVID-19 thread, but its clear that things are different with Omicron and testing asymptomatic individuals may not be the best decision if you want to keep these sports going. I'd anticipate significant changes soon as it is likely that everyone has a high likelihood of catching Omicron, most cases (among vaccinated) tend to be asymptomatic/very mild and case numbers alone may not be the best metric to measure where we are.

Exactly, it’s not going to get better and I don’t know if the test results are showing which variant these athletes are contracting.

Yeah, my WFT is completely ravaged too. We play Sunday so not quite as bad and hopefully we can get some guys back. If not, we'll probably have to put Tress Way in at DE (I've seen him make some big hits at least haha) because our entire D line is out right now.
