The Good Ol' Grateful Thread

Yeah I think I’m out on this one…same songs live get old too IMO
Really wish they would get out of the 68-72 era for live stuff. Give me something past 77 for once and I’ll probably bite. But I bet they’re just gonna keep throwing Europe 72 and May 77 breakouts if they keep selling. I know so many who just have to have them as Dead completists, but I never listen to them.

The only one I’ve kept is Cornell, mostly because I got it on sale for $65 and it sounds pretty fantastic. But I opt for CDs when I can. After all, it’s all free online!

Yeah I kept Cornell too, but now only keep ones with certain songs, like scarlet >fire and eyes of the world

I'll buy your Cornell for $70! ;)

Although last year’s box can be had for $25-50 under MSRP on Discogs and elsewhere. I think many, like myself, are getting a bit weary of all the similar releases. Great show, but not exactly the best medium to enjoy it on. I think I played last year’s box once. The only reason I bought last years was because the CD is just as expensive!
Which box set are you referring to from last year? The Buffalo show? I forget which year they release everything.

Haha can’t let that one go!

Kind of a weird sentimental story attached to it. I was visiting home during Christmas break during law school and went to a nearby B&N to get a gift for a family member. They were having one of those 50% off sales and they had a Cornell box. At the time I couldn’t really muster up the $65 sale price with Christmas around the corner, so I walked out without it. Somehow my mom and I got into the conversation of the 50% sale and how I’d never seen such a big sale there. I think I had mentioned them having some good stuff but couldn’t pull the trigger. A couple days later she gave me a card with a $75 B&N gift card, thanking me for helping her out with some errands. Luckily for me, I went right back there and they still had the Cornell box.

Anyone remember when that Dave's Picks vinyl set comes out / if there are any more available anywhere. I didn't pre-order it and saw it sold out a while ago... Just still hoping to get a copy.

Comes out in April, I believe it was a dead.net exclusive

I’m going to start listening to one show a week so give me some of your favorites.

Currently listening to Pacific Northwest: 73-74.

Have listened to:
Fox Theatre
Cornell
Red Rock 78
Sunshine Daydream
I think that Sunshine Daydream is my favorite, but I’ll throw you one I haven’t seen much talk of. As I was exploring the Dead I specifically searched out a show from my birthday (July 1) and though there wasn’t one from my birth year on that exact date (1989), there was one from one decade earlier. I don’t think 79 is a super popular year, but when I listened to this show I just loved it. It’s not perfect all the way, but I enjoy it a lot. And the second set is fantastic.

My most recent favorite show I discovered is 11/5/85 aka Bill Walton’s birthday where he and most of the 85/86 Celtics are in attendance. Crisp first set with a nice Bird Song, second set has good flow and Jerry is on board for most of it.
I think Big Red talks about this in his autobiography. I believe Rick Carlisle even ended up becoming a fan. Also, what a stacked team—would love to have seen Larry Legend hanging by some twirlers

Dicks Picks 15 (9/3/77) and Dicks Picks 19 (10/19/73) are some great next steps. They are a couple of my faves that are in heavy rotation.
