My list is shaping up to be a pretty healthy mix of older and newer stuff, which I'm happy with. I only started really seriously listening to music about a decade or so ago, so I've been listening to albums that came out in 2010 for just as long as I've been listening to albums that came out in 1970. My #1 is from 2012, and I'd bet an obscene amount of money that it won't be in anyone else's top 10 (it's not exactly a super obscure album, but it wasn't very well-received by many outside of the band's fanbase)

Actually, writing this comment got me curious, so here's the decade breakdown of my (VERY TENATIVE) list:

60s: 2
70s: 15
80s: 2
90s: 6
00s: 13
10s: 12

So, literally half 20th century and half 21st century lol. God damn the 70s were stackeddd

I'm trying this out. It's so hard. I downloaded my Discogs collection / wantlist - got rid of the dupes but that might be a mistaken approach. How do you get >1K into 50? At first I was going 1 by 1 but now I'm just chopping down albums I love like a madman.
I'm running into some issues where I'm thinking this album was so important to me during a period of my life so it belongs in the list. But i'm fighting with my current self in that these other albums are so much better to me now. I've been slowly chipping away the last few days but i'm down to about 200.

You mean most people don’t have a running list of their favorite albums on their phone?
 
How many of your top 50 albums do you have on vinyl?

With how my list is looking right now, I'm at 46/50 - one has never had an official release, one goes for stupid high prices on Discogs (Cheapest one available is $250 right now), and two I just somehow haven't gotten around to getting yet.
 
I don’t want to, but I am going to limit my list to only a single Album by an artist. There were way too many albums that fell off the list when 3-4 Beatles, stones, Bowie albums start grabbing real estate. I still have albums that I am hung up on not making the 50. This is painful
 
I have a shortlist in my head of albums I know are going on the list no matter what, but sometime soon I'm planning on manually going through my entire record collection and cataloging as I go albums that are in contention for the list... I imagine that will likely get me to 50 pretty fast but at the same time I'm sure there are albums I love that either are not on vinyl, are too rare on vinyl, or that I just have neglected to get yet... that's where it will get tricky and I will really need to try to be thorough in covering my bases, because I don't want to accidentally leave an album off just because I forgot about it because I don't own it physically. As for only including one album per artist on my list... yeah there's just no way that's going to be feasible for me

I also wrestle with what I should and shouldn't include... on one level, it feels strange to include an album that's only a year or two old on my ALL-TIME list, but I also want to try to be honest and go with the albums that have made a personal impact on me. I think I'll just have to accept that my list will skew more recent just because I'm one of the babies of the forum, get over it, and just go full speed ahead no fucks given. This should be interesting either way
