The National - Cherry Tree Club

I think each freebee has been a hit and miss for each volume, personally my ratings

Vol. 1
  • Scarf - hit
  • Patch - hit
  • Tote Bag - mid
  • Iron on decall - miss
Vol. 2
  • Beanie - huge hit
  • Arm band - hit
  • guitar picks - mid
Vol. 3
  • Poster - huge hit (I'm looking at it hanging on my wall as I type this)
  • Koozie - huge hit (I use this all the time)
  • Stickers - mid
Vol. 4
  • Coasters - hit
  • Patch - mid
  • Notebook - miss
  • Pencil - miss
Vol. 5
  • Socks - huge hit
  • Bumper Stickers - mid
  • Postcards - mid
Vol. 6
  • Keychain - mid
  • Slip mat - miss
  • Magnets - miss
Basically, I'd prefer if they give us one really nice wearable item like a nice hat or socks or scarf rather than some postcards or stickers. I have liked all the free items so far, but lots of things I'll just end up keeping in a box somewhere.
The scarf is a big hit around these parts

I appreciate a good tchotchkes, the scarf, hat, socks, and screen printed poster are quality items. This year’s whole pack feels a bit lacking when compared to the past few years. Would love a shirt, enamel pin, signed photo something along those lines.

yeah I think it's harder when you need a specific size from each member, but that's not impossible to do if you plan far in advance. It's far easier to mass produce items that are universal.

I think the scarf, beanie and socks are my fave items. I like the idea of the book (the pencil sucked) but, and this is going to sound obnoxious, as a superfan, it just doesn't have enough pages for me to write in all my setlists. Wish it were a mini binder where you could add additional pages.

I actually like the magnets, and I was considering putting them on my fridge but realized what a nightmare it will be to keep the fridge clean, so have decided I'm going to find an 18x24 magnetic whiteboard type thing. I'll put songs I've seen live on one side, songs I haven't on the other, and hang it near my Nats posters. As I hear additional songs, I'll move them to the "heard" side.

I have a chalk board in my kitchen and this was written on it for probably close to two years. This was from when we were planning the shows we'd see in 2019.

Got my package today. Pink slip mat but I have an acrylic platter so it will go in storage with other slip mats. Doubt I'll do anything with the keychain or magnets.

Vinyl itself has some pops and isn't perfectly flag but that's been the case for every one of these I've gotten.

This is the first package I'm whelmed. I'm glad I have it but it will be the least played of the 6 and I'm keeping my membership. I still love what you get for the price and wish some of my other favorites would do something similar (looking at you Isbell team)

Doubtful you would ever get this good of a deal from anything Isbell's camp does. His manager is super protective of his music and his likeness, so if he ever did do something like this expect the price to be double.

$100 for a yearly live album and goodies, pre-sale code that is actually first, and a variant poster and t-shirt (since he does both every night) available online? Take my money

i wound up spoiling the surprise for myself (still don’t have mine yet) so I can comment now. I do think most of the extras are just not very good. The only ones I truly have gotten use out of are the socks and beanie - and both of those I can only wear in winter. Oh I guess I do use the tote bag fairly regularly too. And the poster is up on my wall, but I don’t love love it.

even though I haven’t seen my shipment yet, these extras seem better to me? And the record seems lower tier cause it just lacks in the amount of music (though the song choices are great). I am bummed it’s not close to a full show. But I will use the slip mat and some of those magnets.

Edit to say: I did not realize the magnets were like every song they’ve done. That’s a bit crazy. And your idea of more logo magenta would have been cooler. But hey I have a Grateful Dead slip mat I use and I’ll happily trade it out for a while for a National one. Even though I don’t neeeeed it.

To be fair. I am a bit disappointed with the all the extras I have received. My expectations were to be considered as a fan, not like someone who likes the band but rather someone who loves National music and therefore accept to pay a subscription.

So far, I have mostly received cheap goodies with National written on it. I was expecting more like handwritten stuff, exclusive pictures, lyrics books... Things more related to their music than a pair of socks or a scarf with National on it. I like the exclusive access to tickets or to exclusive releases but not being in the US, I don't take advantage of these.

Anyway, that's just me and everyone has different expectations. I'll stay subscribed and I am excited with the vinyl.

I do appreciate that they give us access to presale tickets - I've been very fortunate over the years. I also love that there is always a vinyl release - 8 songs this time is somewhat disappointing, but it's better than nothing. (Still looking at you Pearl Jam 10club for discontinuing the annual vinyl single and turning the fan club ticketing into a lottery in which my luck has been beyond abysmal)

I also love that we can get fanclub variants of vinyl, posters and shirts.

The extras in the packages to me are just meh but fun. I have more felt slipmats than I could ever use, the coasters are sitting on a shelf gathering dust. The poster is hung, but tbh, it's not a print that I really like.

I got mine in today! Despite thinking it's a bit too short, this is a nice collection of songs. Also it is like 40 minutes or so, so even though it feels light it's a decent length for a small listen. I'll probably pair this with Volume 1 or the Forest Hills Stadium vinyl for a longer single listen. I gotta say this version of Smoke Detector is really great. Just hearing that drumming hits straight through to me.
