The NBA Thread

Embid is a coward and represents everything wrong with the NBA's regular season.

Fucking duck.
He’s going to fall short of the games required threshold to be MVP, people will squawk about it, and in the end he will deserve not to get it because he’s a coward that ducks tough matchups. Then, after he flames out (again) in the 2nd round, people will mea culpa on the controversy. How many years in a row has he not played in Denver?

That carefully constructed 36 PPG that's aided by more flopping than prime Harden.

They gotta get rid of guys trying to draw charges when other players are already in mid-air. Hope Randle’s alright.

They need to fix the rules to allow for more perimeter defense first. Get rid of illegal D, stop allowing offensive players to draw fouls by initiating contact.

After that the conversations on how to handle charges can be had.

The charges actively hurt players. It should be a flagrant to undercut a guy like what Jaquez did to Randle.

The NBA wants high scoring games. They want Luka to go for 70. They don’t want grinds where the score is 90-84. Even though I agree with ya.

I dont want 90-84 games. I want games where perimeter defense is allowed.

I agree that the NBA thinks 70 point games is what people want... but I can tell you that everyone I talk to in Chicago who won't watch the NBA (which is most of the city) points the the officiating and the lack of defense as why.

There is a happy medium to be found in a league that has optimized offense through spacing. Nobody wants to watch FTs anyways.

I'm begging you to stop trying to turn this place into Reddit and linking the "betting expert" you can make a living on by fading while he spews his mental illness across his timeline

And I'm begging your MVP to actually show up and play in Denver for once. The last time he played in Denver, the Broncos were a respected franchise and the pandemic hadn't hit yet.

You, most Sixers fans and a couple other people in this thread who are East Coast centered, spent 2+ years on this thread calling Jokic an illegitimate MVP. Sixers fans created this animosity between the tan bases.

And if you can't understand why Nuggets fans find it obnoxious that the dude openly ducks the Nuggets everytime there is a game in Denver while your fanbase has spent years talking shit, I don't know what to tell you.

But I can tell you that I have friends that spent 300-400$ on tickets after he didn't show on the injury report. It's tuxking embarrassing and should be for all fans of basketball that Embid decided to no-show 20 minutes before the game

And that Matt Moore is a solid NBA journalist that frequents respected NBA pods and was high up with CBS before he pivoted to betting. And everything he tweeted tonight is straght facts.

"Embiid is scared of Jokic" is such a lazy whiny joke

Did I say that? Last year it was about controlling narratives. Particularly last year when he had won in Philly and had nothing to gain in the MVP race by playing. This year, I think he's just being a fucking troll.

The dude hasn't played in Denver in 5 years. Who gives a fuck what his record against Jokic is when he only shows up to play in Philly and has only played in Denver 1 time (and lost) in the timeframe where both teams were contenders. The fact that you still sight his record against Jokic is exactly why the dude ducks games at altitude.

Two years in a row he has suddenly gone onto the injury report. Last year he was immediately playing the next game.

This I agree with. IIRC he wasn’t even questionable going into the game this time. He was listed as active then suddenly out right before tip off. Even if you ignore how fucked up it is for fans who paid a lot to go to the game to see Embiid vs Jokic, it’s also unfair for the opposing team to game plan for Embiid because he isn’t even listed as questionable.

I didn't quote you, my post was in reaction to multiple posts about Embiid, but since you asked,

sounds a lot like "Embiid is scared of Jokic."

Ducking games due to an attempt to control narratives is not the same as being afraid of Jokic. That said, being afraid to lose in Denver is also not the same as being afraid of Jokic. And it's pretty fucking clear that he's afraid to play in Denver whether it's because of the altitude or whatever.

And setting aside that Denver fans also have every right, and multiple reasons, to be beyond annoyed-- it's fucking embarrassing for the league that what should be a marquee matchup (that they scheduled on rivalry week) hasn't happened in Denver for a half decade.

Ticket prices were 4x normal face value. As I said, I had friends and family there.

As it turns out, they saw a great game.
Not the game they paid 4x prices to see. If they wanted to see the Nuggets playing with their food and giving half effort against an inferior opponent then they would have paid 1/2 off normal prices to see us play the Rockets.

From the Hoops Collective:

Windy: "You guys know I'm a big supporter of Embid and have defended him, to my detriment, in this matchup with Jokic. I am nothing but disappointed with how this went down and frankly it looks just terrible for Embid".

Bontempts replacement (who was flying back from Denver): "Not only does it look terrible from his perspective, it looks terrible for the league. Silver went out of his way to create rules that said that guys have to play. And the fact that he wasn't on the injury report to me, I'm with Malone on this... there needs to be an investigation into this. And consequences for the player and the team in regards to not keeping true to the injury report".

Windhorst: "It nots even just about that. It looks like he dodged him".

Replacement: "It looks like there are shenanigans".

McMahon: "It looks like Embid doesn't want to go up against Jokic...

EVERYONE: "In Denver"

Replacement: "These are the games people most look forward to. Dueling MVP's... that stuff matters".

The podcaster who went viral when he was called a jackass on his own show for saying there is no way Jokic should be MVP over Embid in 2021 (and who Tim jokingly callis the anti-Jokic lobbyist) is disgusted. Everyone on the pod says the optics look like he's unwilling to play in Denver... but Nuggets fans are overreacting by feeling the same way.
