The NBA Thread

This is a fun offseason simulator for anyone looking to waste some time thinking about the Knicks. It goes through the draft, free agency, and trades, then simulates the season based off your moves. It was a little more fun before the lottery

Just had a thought (so it was last night but whatever) what if the Raptors lose to the Warriors, KD leaves GS and Kawhi then goes to GS to win his second title

What my little Pels heart wants is for the Raps to *just* lose this in seven games, Kawhi resigns, and then the Raptors swing a deal for AD that sends Siakam to the Pelicans. My brain knows this will never happen, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

wonder if AD would stay in NO now with them having the first pick

Yea--KD to NY seems like a done deal according to people but he's also the type to just straight up change his mind based on something somebody on instagram says to him hah. I think Kawhi is either staying in Toronto or going to the Clippers. Klay is staying unless the Warriors lowball him.
Even though I know KD is the better player if the Warriors had to lose either him or Klay I'd hang on to Klay. I think there's still a chance KD comes back but would put Klay's return at like 95%...he loves the Bay Area and the fans love him back. KD has always been respected for being one of the top 2 players in the game but the adoration of him isn't quite the same.

I dont know why any player would want to go deal with the Knicks ownership, especially a guy like KD that could go anywhere. James Dolan is in the bad owner HOF
Dolan is a bad owner if you're a fan. As far as player/ownership relationships go, the only player who played for the Knicks who publicly dislikes him is Oakley. If you think about it from a player perspective, Dolan always opens his checkbook, he gives guys gigs post-NBA life, and if you're someone like KD who hates dealing with the press, Dolan isn't afraid to ban reporters from MSG. Combine that with KD likely looking for a new legacy since people don't consider his rings with GS impressive...if KD was ever to win a championship in NY, he'd have a statue built of him and he'd be catapulted into a top 5 player of all-time.

Combine that with playing at MSG 41 nights at least a year and being in a huge market where you can team up with at least 1 other NBA star since we are one of very few teams that can sign 2 max FA without giving up any assets and it's not as bad as people make it out to be.

He wasn't a GS draft pick where as Klay, Dray and Steph were. It's why KD will likely leave--it's not his team and never will be as long as Steph is around.

And I get all of that, but I would not trust Dolan to put the right people in place who could build a championship caliber team around any player, even if that player is arguably the best in the world and brings another max player with him.

I'd be very surprised if them signing a rookie (a great one, yeah, but a rookie nonetheless) changed his mind after all this time.
if he does leave it would make another player more open to the trade (does the NBA have no trade clauses?)

Rarely. This article explains the limited use of NTCs pretty well if you're interested.
I hadn't really heard about it as you do in baseball so I really had no idea, regardless I think NO might be attractive to some players now, especially if they could convince AD to stay (the player not the org)

If they can sign AD to an extension during the offseason, great. Otherwise I would trade AD before the season starts and Holiday before the deadline. Be bad for a few years and build around Zion while getting good picks. NO is a pretty small market and not traditionally a free agent destination.

I only really know AD on their team, I usually only watch the playoffs and get updates from SC during the regular season

Jrue Holiday is a perennially underrated player who is also on the Pels, so he has some trade value too if AD leaves. The new GM is trying to convince AD to stay. AD has the same agent as LeBron, and the new GM (David Griffin) was the GM that put all those Cavs Finals teams around LeBron, so they have a good relationship.

It's a bit of a potential win-win for the Pelicans. If AD doesn't sign an extension this summer, I'd look to move him and they should be able to get a lot of young pieces and picks to pair with Zion. Worst thing that could happen is the Pels hold onto AD and play him and he gets injured this year and they end up with nothing.

I can see why everyone thinks that but much like he did with the Rangers, Dolan has taken a step back (finally) from the Knicks. Perry has made a lot of good moves so far so I'd have more faith with the new Knicks FO than in years past. We have 7 1st rounders in the next 5 years, some good young talent and clean books this summer. The east is pretty wide open too for contenders next year and moving forward.
