The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Kinda, it speaks to larger systemic issues. Older mostly male music reviewers thinking that she isn’t appreciative enough of the honor they bestowed on her. It also speaks to the laziness of a lot of music critics after heaping gushing praise on an artist to comeback on the second album as a harsh critic. Feels like anytime an artist is anything less than humble or grateful many are punitive in their next review of the artist.

I feel like had she played nice the reviews would have been kinder. Also, she entitled her follow album an 89 word poem which everyone felt like they needed to make jokes about in their write ups.

Personally It’s my favorite of her albums I feel like she and Jon Brion were a perfect pairing and am still disappointed that she had to shelve their version of Extraordinary Machines.
Actually the reviews I’ve read were more akin to well this is awesome despite the first album (and the title and her attitude, one of them mentioned the speech… I figured it would be way worse… that’s just a bad speech not a particularly polarizing one in my opinion)

George Michael - Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1

I’ve probably told this story before. This was the first Dylan album I ever bought. My sophomore year of College, the never ending tour made a stop at a high school in nearby Sparta, Tennessee. I had a couple of friends that were really into Dylan, so I decided to tag along for purposes of seeing a Living Legend play even if I wasn’t that into him.

I bought this album on CD the week before so I would know something at the show…

I think he played Masters of War that night, but it was an effectively useless primer as I recognized nothing and the band that night was closer to a Pearl Jam sound than this. But when I heard Tangled Up in Blue that night, I became a fan.

LCD Soundsystem - American Dream

The 4th best LCD Soundsystem album, so I assume that their 3 other albums likely made the list as well. This album is still quite good especially after their prolonged hiatus, it is just not as good as what came before.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw this album come up. I did enjoy it more than I remember when it first came up. Probably still a 3/5 for me.

Last.fm shows me that I have listened to this but not the whole album. Seems like I started several times when it came out but never finished. Whereas previous albums by them have excited me, initial reaction to the first track here is that this is by the numbers 80 pastiche. Other voices picks up the tempo but seems more rooted in things I have heard before then something new and inventive like I felt with Sound of Silver. It’s okay so far but I can understand why I did not follow up with it.
