This is one of my favourite albums of the last 25 years.

Agreed, wonderful record. Their stretch of albums from Black Light/ Hot Rail / Feast of Wire are all essential.
Also recommend hunting down one of their side projects called ABBC. They did an album in 2000 that is wonderful but pretty hard to find.

I like their collabs with Iron and Wine, I have listened to their last few albums and while on paper I should dig them, they haven’t done much for me. I never thought to dig back. Looking forward to giving this a listen.

This album has a unique sound to me. Every time I put it on it’s like a horizon manifests itself in whatever room I happen to be in. It’s majestic, but also slightly broken at the same time. I love most of the other Calexico albums too, but none quite match this.

I’ve always liked Ice-T. He’s got a unique way of thinking about things, isn’t dumb but comes off kind of like Mulany describes him. His flow is awkward as fuck though.

Seems pretty spot on.
Beck is an interesting musician. He seems to be in a pop phase right now but most of the rest of his career switches between these modern folk things that recall other eras/scenes and his hipster collage of sound thing. Even when he’s not at the top of his game, he’s interesting. Hell he even managed to get the Black Krys to make an interesting album
