The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Looks like it was actually one of their most commercially successful albums in the US so maybe that played a role. Looks like it charted #1 in the US and #2 in the UK.

This may be controversial, but I don't hate it so far.
Allmusic gave it four stars which is at least two more than I would give it and Erlwine’s review for it is a match to that score.

Slipknot is one of only two nu-metal acts I can actually stand ( the other being System of a Down). I think I only actually like the first two Slipknot albums though. I hadn’t heard this one before but it was pretty trite and boring, which is weird coming from the band that made the ultimate nihilistic screamalong anthem ”People=Shit”. Score: 2 stars.

Kind of a hot take, but Iron Maidens debut album is probably one of the most influential rock albums ever made. Influenced pretty much much the entire metal genre from the 80s onward, whether it’s the darkest corners of black metal or chart-topping hair metal. Fuck, even EDM, Coldplay and numerous singer/songwriters has their fair share of Maiden in their DNA. It still kicks ass too.

Also: RIP Paul DiAnno who passed away the other week.

Score 4 stars

Never knew that, thanks!
Same thing happened with the single Twilight Zone on Killers. These songs were actually kinda hard to come by back in the day since the singles were pretty rare, at least in Sweden. I had the original european pressing of both albums but my friend had the japanese version of Killers where Twilight Zone was a bonus track which was awesome.

Are great non-album singles a strictly european/uk phenomenon? I mean bands like The Smiths, The Charlatans, Buzzcocks and (yes, I’m a Swede) ABBA released some of their best work as non album singles. And then I haven’t even opened the Beatles/Stones can of worms yet…
I was listening to the New Order podcast and they were very against putting singles on albums.
