The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

I really enjoy The Liars that being said, this is probably my 3rd favorite Liars album.

Cool concept about witches/witch trials and a really good record I would just put Drums Not Dead and Liars ahead of it. TBH, their debut, They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top probably has better stand alone songs though the concept behind They Where Wrong So We Drowned made for a stronger album overall.

If this album doesn’t do it for ya you have to at least give the giant Australian lead singer props for inspiring one of the best love songs of the 00s with Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Maps”.

What are your thoughts?
I like the dark tone and layered sound, kind of like an updated electronic version of Sonic Youth. I only listened to it once and I’ve never really focused in on lyrics the first listen, but I get that there is a concept here about witches and it is telling the story from opposing viewpoints but I don’t how successful it is in the execution of its concept. I liked it enough that I will for sure visit it again and would be interested in listening to more of their stuff.

@avecigrec did you get a chance to listen to this. I’d like to hear from @musicjunkiegreg and @Bohnjaggs . @Woob_woob is who i’d really like to hear from.
I discovered Liars back in 2014 with  Mess. Can't say that I am a huge fan of theirs, but I've checked out all of their new releases since then, and some of their previous catalog. I have listened to They Where Wrong So We Drowned, but I haven't heard it in so long, though, and I've only listened to it maybe twice? I don't remember being blown away by it or anything, but I do remember appreciating it for it's experimental style and it's concept 👍

Love this album. I don’t think it’s the best Wu project, but it’s probably top ten rap
Anyhow. Don’t know never really thought about it like that. I did miss it when it came out was about a year late. Not real sure how that happened. A friend told me I should check it out and did.

Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)

Reposting my listening notes here:

One of the first hip-hop albums I heard as a teenager (around the late 00s/early 10s) and I still love the gritty lo-fi atmosphere this album gives off. C.R.E.A.M. & Can It Be All So Simple are damn near perfect, Chessboxin’ & Protect Ya Neck are hits, I personally prefer 7th Chamber Pt. II to Pt. I and while the Wu truly are nuthing ta f’ wit, that’s easily my least favourite song here. Great album overall!

5/5
