The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

@Joe Mac you think this is better than Vauxhall and I & Your Arsenal?

The first song was good. Sadly, timely as well, despite some datedness.

It’s not bad just sleepy.

Hard to judge really. This was a huge comeback album for him, sorta propelled him back as an indie darling again in the early 2000s after probably a decade in the wilderness. Even NME made up with him again for a few years.

In hindsight the singles are all very strong but the album maybe isn’t in his top 5 or so.

Viva Hate remains my favourite solo Moz.

It’s a mixed bag. He’s not in top form. Some of the songs are decent. It’s funny that this was his big comeback as much of it seems uninspired. Then again, I’ve not listened to all his stuff so maybe this is miles better than the couple before it?

Hey he is not a racist. It is all part of a smear campaign
So what exactly would the troll get out fo it besides yuks or if it’s just Marr fucking with him?

I remember really liking "Irish Blood English Heart" when this came out. I can't remember if I ever actually listened to the full album before but listening to it today was pretty underwhelming.

First of the Gang to Die was maybe my favourite off this and liked Irish Blood at the time. Let Me Kiss You was the other single, which he also gave to Nancy Sinatra who released it as a single too.

One previous had been 1997 and this came out in 2004 so there was a big gap. Southpaw Grammer and Maladjusted are albums that big Morrissey fans kinda adored as cult classics but that didn’t light the public’s imagination and kinda saw him slip out of vogue. The emergence of the likes of the Libertines and their literary affectations kinda saw him come back in vogue as they all spoke about his early solo stuff and the smiths a lot. Plus emo, the emos loved Moz.

I remember First of the Gang to die too but I feel like that didn't get as played as much on the radio over here.

He was actually booked on Lollapalooza when this came out which at the time was scheduled to be a tour with 2 days in each city, but the whole tour ultimately got canceled. He would have been next to some of the mildly big indie bands at the time.

No it wasn’t as big a hit, it was just the one that over the years drew me in a bit more.

That cd cover on allmusic and the generator site kills me. It’s a single slab in vinyl. I guess they were going for the technological marvel? Or did people forget that their CD was a CD and would try to out it on their turntable?

I’m going to try to give my vinyl copy a spin today.
