Can I bring this conversation back? I’m going to. I decided to do a huge deep dive on AnCo’s discography. I was expecting to make a YouTube video essay on it but until I actually DO that…. I did a first impressions list.I really should dive into their catalog someday. I really dig this album and the two Panda Bear albums I have.
The generator only picks from the edition it used as source.Oh hell no! I'm on board for 1001 albums exactly. If there's an album 1002 I'm out!
HI!!!I’ve always wanted to do a deep dive into this and make a podcast out of it — even if it was for myself. Glad to see others doing the work as well!
I also hear that because of the different publishings, there’s technically more than 1,001… It’s more like 1,200
I’M BACK, BI(sticky pudding)ES!!!!!HI!!!
Nice list! I would drop Centipede Hz down to 5 and slightly rearrange the top 4 a bit but it’s close enough. Can I bring this conversation back? I’m going to. 1.) Sung Tongs
2.) Feels
3.) Centipede Hz
4.) Merriweather Post Pavilion
5.) Strawberry Jam
6.) Isn’t It Now?
7.) Spirit They’re Gone
8.) Time Skiffs
9.) Painting With
10.) Ark (Here Comes the Indian)
11.) Hollinndagain
12.) Campfire Songs
13.) Danse Manatee
—-
1.) Fall Be Kind
2.) Prospect Hummer
3.) Water Curses
4.) Meeting of the Waters
5.) The Painters
6.) Bridge to Quiet
7.) People
As of the list coming up — I want to put a huge line between Spirit They’re Gone and Time Skiffs. That line represents what I am more willing to put on a full listen rather than just saying “I like some songs or moments”. I’ll go into more detail as I go through the catalog again, but at this point I can confidently say that:
1.) AnCo albums generally have a harsh start and a very satisfying ending
2.) Sung Tongs and Feels are neck and neck to me, but Sung Tongs inches it out as something that feels like a better ALBUM listen. Feels is pretty peak, but Sung Tongs is an experiment from front-to-back, a vision that sees its way through confidently, and THAT is what makes it the better choice
and 3.) Despite what I just said, I can say what’s the BEST versus my FAVOURITE… and Centipede Hz is my fave from them.
I haven’t! The only experience I had from AnCo was People Pitch, CHz, and the singles from Sung Tongs. After the discography listen, I’m totally willing to give the solo stuff a shot. Deakin interests me most after I heard Wide EyedNice list! I would drop Centipede Hz down to 5 and slightly rearrange the top 4 a bit but it’s close enough.
You checked out the new Panda Bear album? It’s waaay better than I was expecting and will likely end up on my AOTY list come December.
I am a huge Beach Boys fan and Noah seems to be the deeply inspired by the works of Brian Wilson. I really loved Person Pitch, Tomboy, and Meets The Grim Reaper. They were all, IMO up there with AC’s best work. The albums since were good if not spectacular but this new one was a return to form and full of accessible summer jams. Check it out.I haven’t! Definitely give it a listen. It's my AOTY so far.Hot take, if the newer albums sounded like this preview, they would’ve been higher on the list![]()
