Upcoming/Recent Shows

This venue looks cool af.
It is, the sound is impeccable. Typically used for symphonies but they rent it out for shows throughout the season. I've mentioned it before, but the best part about it is that when it was built, they were mandated by the city to keep a pedestrian walkway open around it. So These pics are from outside the venue with a better sight line than 2/3 of the folks inside.

I looked up some images on google and it's right on the water! Amazing. Are you going to see Gizz there?

The Decemberists were fantastic last night.
We bought tickets in the Projection Room. I've been to this venue (Royal Oak Music Theater) for over a dozen shows, but hadn't done this yet. It was a really cool way to see a show. 20 reserved seats at the back, top of the house. We had a bar, a restroom and a rooftop deck. The sound was great. I'll do it again for sure. The next show of interest there was Andrew Bird but it's the day after we leave for Yellowstone.

Oh this looks fantastic! My aching back would love the reserved seat.

Maggie Rogers ~ Gallagher Square @ Petco Park San Diego 5/23/2024

Tour kickoff for the new album. We've seen Maggie a few times now and I'd say this was the best show we've seen from her. Maybe it was the first show high, but she seemed much more self assured and relaxed, and the set was more high energy. I would still like to see her do a few songs solo as part of her set, but thats a minor complaint. +1 for the Padres jersey too.

Not a 'recent' show by any stretch, but I have a habit of looking through my photos for pictures taken 'on this day', and this sequence from 2004 came up from the Doheny Blues Fest 20 years ago today.

First up - Robert Randolph & The Family Band - First time I'd seen him and by far the best. Tons of energy and was way more spontaneous than the subsequent times that I saw him.

And then @Yer Ol' Uncle D will appreciate the second set of pics. First time that I saw Lucinda Williams (with the fantastic Doug Pettibone). Unlike Robert Randolph every time I've seen Lu since she's been fantastic, although the years with Pettibone escalated it to another level.

I've seen this venue listed on some bands tour dates - is this the open square area past center field? I've been to Petco Park but it's been about 5 years.

Yep, that's exactly where it is. They redid it a year or so ago, it works out really well as there are some elevated areas around it so you can get good sight lines.
