Discover the Next Evolution in Jazz Vinyl Collecting with the Verve Record Club

Verve and Impulse Records are thrilled to introduce the Verve Record Club — a must-have membership for any jazz vinyl aficionado.

This is your exclusive pass to own some of the most legendary recordings in jazz history, newly reissued with the highest fidelity, along with rare, previously unreleased material you won’t find anywhere else.

Our inaugural release in February will be the John Coltrane Quartette album, Coltrane, followed by Nina Simone’s High Priestess of Soul and Louis Armstrong’s Hello, Dolly.

Future releases will spotlight more icons, including Ella Fitzgerald, Bill Evans, Billie Holiday, Ahmad Jamal, and Sarah Vaughan, along with treasures from Verve, Impulse!, Mercury, CTI, Decca, MGM, and other legendary labels.

All titles will be newly mastered by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI and packaged in deluxe tip-on jackets.

The Verve Record Club is your gateway to a richer, deeper musical experience, where timeless music meets unmatched quality.

I see this as several things.

1. A repudiation of Chad and his very limited knowledge/taste.

2. Squeezing Chad out the middle.

3. A recognition that VMP isn't a force any longer and won't get decent catalog titles.

4. An attempt to lock down customers in a market that is saturated and who are becoming more selective as a result.

If they say 'AAA' I believe it. Very large sections of true analog masters in the Verve/Impulse/Universal catalogs went up in smoke. Universal sent out a worldwide request for any and all copy tapes sent to international affiliates. So many, but by far not all, have good 2nd or 3rd gen copies available. RKS can get great sound from them.

The “newly mastered from tape” vs “cut from tape” makes me think this series is not AAA…

As for point 1, all of the titles so far seem like Chad picks. Tons of vocal jazz listed so far.

I’ll wait for reviews on this but for the price, I think it’s pretty wild especially if they aren’t AAA.

FYI, subscription page is live, and Verve has confirmed AAA. Tempted to pick up the Coltrane, but would likely bounce after that.

I did a one month to test and got Coltrane. Want Nina too but don’t want Louis Armstrong. 3 month only saved $2 a record.

Since I’m shameless, there’s a $10 off $50 or more referral code…not sure if it works on subs but if anybody is doing 3 month or more might be worth a shot?

Remind me when Nina is live? I might join for three. I don’t want Coltrane (happy with my current copy), want the Simone and the Armstrong.

Not 100% sure date for Nina but it’s the next release. Will try to tag y when I see it up.

Really curious what they do if they don’t sell 2,500 copies. Also seems vague on if these will get unnumbered wide release or not…

Spinning the Coltrane as I type. So far, so good. I only have various digital sources for this (CD, SACD) but this is super nice. Well done and flat. For the record, not happy about the price, but I "needed" this so here we are. Is it worth it to me, sadly I will say yes, since it's my favorite Trane era (Impulse!).
Considering the music, it is worth the price and more.

This record has always been somewhat overlooked - Ballads, ALS, VV and Birdland get more attention. And BTW, very sadly, Birdland went up in smoke - including all the unreleased material.

But it is just a perfect record, start to finish. Playing, recording, sequencing, song selection, everything. The purest distillation of the Coltrane Quartet.

This new version sounds amazing, much better than the tame SH/KPG 45 AP. Tonally superb and very accurate. Garrison's bass will test bass excursion on any speaker. Piano sound is excellent with sparkle. Elvin is a bit recessed, but there is a lot going on in front of him.

Great.

Great.
Excellent synopsis. Thank you for this and this listener agrees. Personally, I am ready for Transition.
