Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Thankfully omen starts it very safe

Maybe a little too digital, because the drums don't have as much punch or dynamics as they could have not that could be the master or my headphones (also note this is basically just the a special pressing of the 2016 copy if the back is accurate)

The vinyl is completely flat, no major errors besides seemingly a small stain of blue vinyl on the label.. and static is very minor.. seems like the cost cutting came more from the flimsy covers, these are definitely not tipons and they are pretty flimsy

Metal Blade arrived today and I’ve spun the first two in the set. Flat pressings and pleased with the sound, but nothing mind blowing. There is a bit of surface noise, but it’s mostly drowned out by the loud volume. A good clean may solve the issue.

I will say I’m disappointed with the cheap sleeves. And only Armored Saint and King Diamond have poly-lined inner sleeves. For such a premium price, I really did expect better. Plus, three of the albums are pretty badly seam split on top.

Overall it’s a nice set, and I’m really looking forward to listening to the rest. And I really enjoyed the podcast series. But I think the flimsy outer and inner sleeves are a big detractor.

Fates warning, the back cover claims this is a 2020 reissue (both this and omen apparently done by Patrick Engel, they may expect you to know it's Barry Grint from the book.

Again totally flat, only cosmetic thing being a dot of blue on the label.. the mastering on some very high guitar notes if a bit much, same with the drums feeling at times metallic and a good amount of reverb, but I didn't really like the master when I heard it on tidal before.. no scratches, no major static, all pretty satisfying

Episode 1 opinions, good pressings, clearly digital I think, I probably would have mastered differently

Cool

I'm probably going to do the tactic of listening to one episode a day.. how will you

Honestly this + the flimsy sleeves sounds 100% like every Metal Blade release I own. I guess I thought they might up their game with the price tag involved, but that was foolish of me I guess.

It's not even that bad mastering wise

It's more like the drums can feel like like falling pancakes and the dynamics aren't as big as they could have been

It will probably work amazing for something like cannibal corpse.. but episode one are these big heavy and dramatic rock albums and they aren't getting the Bellman treatment is all im saying

This is basically a Newbury bundle and I actually kinda don't mind

I just wanted better jackets man. I have records from them littered with dings that are just a month old.

Still excited for the music. I love the Cannibal Corpse and Black Dahlia Murder albums, really like the Amon Amarth and am excited to hear the rest for the first time.

Good idea. That’s probably the ideal way to tackle it. But I’m impatient so I’ll probably just go through the rest of the records in one go tomorrow lol. I’ll be working from home so I’ll have the time.

Very well put. I agree.

Listening to the 3rd episode of the podcast

Basically it IS legal to show the cannibal corpse cover in Germany but it's on a list of things that can't be shown to people under 18.. but they are still nervous to play anything because it's unclear

I think some of their other album covers are even worse. At least to me. I guess that one got a lot of heat because of the bloody fetuses? It is pretty sickening. In the best way.

Cannibal corpse is so bright it kinda hurts

Like if it was mastered like omen was then cool, but this is.. too much.. also the flat streak is broken as side B shows the dishing is there

GWAR is flat but has some notable pops from scratches on side A

Also just an album I like more than cannibal corpse

One more episode of Herbie left for me. This box is outstanding from every aspect, except my copy or The Piano has some bad noise at many parts through side 1. Damn shame since its the most quiet album.
I wrote in for a replacement, and Tyler asked for a video but I havent heard back yet. Anyone have luck still getting replacements? I should have listened to them all quicker but I like to so it along with the podcasts and Ive had no real issues since Story of Blue note and Ive bought every Anthology (disclaimer: Im not picky about warps or seam splits unless significant)

I have had a replacement come through fine. It's annoying to have to upload videos and link them, but if it keeps the triers at bay then it's worth doing I suppose.

Yep, for sure. It was just annoying to catch since its at sporadic parts and I didnt want to send a 20 minute video.
Honestly when they look at my order history of 291 total orders with very few replacements, they should probably give the benefit of the doubt…but as long as I get one no big. The album is otherwise beautiful
