Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Go back a couple of pages in this thread and somebody posted a link to the hidden page that they're going to release later today. It will make you feel stupid.

FFS....

I get the principle of the "surprise" experience, and I think it's pretty cool in concept, but as a record collector who cares about QC, I feel the need to open and inspect everything immediately. More importantly, I don't have the cash to play around with a $300 grab bag — I'm out. Plus unless they pull some really weird shit, what's so surprising about pulling out one of these top selling albums...

The reason the Tone Poets are $10 more than the Blue Note 80 are because of the better jacket/gatefold. That's the only appreciable difference from the Blue Note 80s that are also AAA from Kevin Gray. I don't think RTI is more expensive than QRP and if they are I'd rather have QRP.

The anthology box, unless they change from the last one, will be much more similar to the Blue Note 80 releases.

IMO, the printing quality of the sleeves was pretty good, with a much better feel than the BN80. They are more similar to the non-gatefold Tone Poets (e.g. New Bottle, Old Wine), but they have matte finish (vs. glossy). They feel nice and substantial and have tip-on sleeves.

I’m assuming replacements would be available through the unboxing periods?
Oh man, what an interesting question. I wonder if they thought of this. They have been known to run out of replacements. So people that buy this have to decide - do they wait to open the albums to check for issues? And hope there are replacements available by that time? Or do they open the albums all at once and then miss out on the slow reveal?

I wonder whether Motown will release these titles individually at a future date. My interest in this set is waning.

THIS! Has there been a single VMP "exclusive" release that was not eventually available elsewhere? This is the part that I don't understand. Still blindly throwing money at a company who does not have QC and is selling overpriced albums when we all know those overpriced albums will be available in a few months elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong, I love to say What's in the Box a lot. But let's think about the answer to that question.
It's his pregnant wife's head.

where is that at? I am a subpar sleuth apparently.

Under "More Anthology Questions" first question.

As much as I hate VMP- actually yes. The Fiona Apple, the original sampled Ready To Die, several of the Classics (esp the Miles/Coltrane)
I have the Fiona Apple and I do not believe I was a member. I could be wrong though.

Has enough time surpassed for the classics to have been released by the labels? I didn't say available right away. Heck, they've even repressed stuff themselves (which is a gigantic fuck you to their members). So where is the incentive to freak out about FOMO?

And don't get me started on the Ready to Die and how they wouldn't answer questions about the samples. But you're right - there are probably some hip hop ones I'm not familiar with.

Of all the "exclusives" and AOTMs, you've named 2 essentials and several classics. The odds still favor waiting.
