Vinyl Me Please Anthology

I have the Fiona Apple and I do not believe I was a member. I could be wrong though.

Has enough time surpassed for the classics to have been released by the labels? I didn't say available right away. Heck, they've even repressed stuff themselves (which is a gigantic fuck you to their members). So where is the incentive to freak out about FOMO?

And don't get me started on the Ready to Die and how they wouldn't answer questions about the samples. But you're right - there are probably some hip hop ones I'm not familiar with.

Of all the "exclusives" and AOTMs, you've named 2 essentials and several classics. The odds still favor waiting.

I'm not trying to dissuade anyone, and I plan on purchasing this anthology myself (despite agreeing that it is probably overpriced), but I would caution anyone against purchasing this for the exclusivity of the content. Montara, one of the albums in the Blue Note Anthology, is already being reissued in Europe (and those are obviously obtainable for people in other parts of the world).

And also, @TheThinWhiteDuke - that was not meant to sound like an attack on you. I like being kept honest.

The real question is do you guys have enough time in your life to listen to all the records you already own plus another 8 you would add by buying this collection?

Regardless of what you payed for a record, you don't get your value unless you listen to it. I don't know how many records sit on my self and I don't even have a lot compared to most people. I always think about this when I buy a new record. The other question is do I have something similar that would just fill in for what I am wanting at the moment.

I'm happy with my copy of Marvin Gaye M.P.G.

I can torment my wife with trying to get her to sing the back up parts to That's the Way Love Is. Sadly she never does.

Second this, and tacking on: don't factor in the "extras" unless they SPECIFICALLY say what that extra is going to be, ie, special objects like a slipmat or tshirt or something like that or specific discounts to specific stores (20% off the vmp store, whatever).

Vague "extras" and "discounts" may or may not materialize, as we learned with the BN anthology.

The answer in that FAQ for why they won't tell us what's in the box is absolutely horse shit. When I bought the Tom Petty box set I bought it because I knew what was in it, and it cost less than this. They ask that people don't say what's in the box once they get it, are you kidding me? this is the internet. On what planet do they think that what's in the box won't be available as soon as the first person gets the box. Bullshit.

My copy of [MYSTERY RECORD] has two b-side labels. Also the cover of my copy of [MYSTERY RECORD] is a CD scan.

Personally, I'd rather they keep stuff in print. I have zero interest in owning some "rare" copy, especially since most reissues aren't really that "sacred" by any means. Just keep it in print and make it sound good, and people can let their tastes dictate the quality of their collections vs manufactured rarities. To your point the issue is that they get their subscribers all hyped up about it going OOS, then proceed to repress or find a box in the closet. Very silly IMO.

at least there are some improvements this time

like no longer having to pay upfront the 300 dollar price tag (still way too much). and not having a facebook group....

but still.. i would rather have a cheaper less premium boxset with a bunch of albums i love more than anything else

But what if I told you that you could have a boxset just as premium as this one that IS ALSO cheaper?! Because VMP is def trying to squeeze what they can out of people, and I refuse to believe this couldn't have been done at a lower price point
30 bucks a record is pretty cheap when it comes to audiophile pressings like this

(i just want to know so when they finally get to subpop or kranky or matador i dont have to spend a fortune on it to get the albums i want)

At least they know the podcast will be much better quality now!
Per Storf:
As far as audio content, know that we have roughly twice as much ready to roll for this Anthology; I have actual experience making podcasts now vs. Blue Note.
That hour long podcast interviewing Don Was has given Storf the experience needed to make the new podcast...longer?

Edit: Throwing it out there again that if anyone wants my discount code they can have it.

And with 200% more Storf!

Honestly though I didn't think he did a bad job for his first podcast. I used to do a TV show recap podcast with my wife for fun and they're definitely not easy to do. I mean, the podcast was just one long interview with Don Was but I felt like he produced it pretty well. Definitely shouldn't have been their big selling point... but wasn't bad.

I sort of took this as a legal requirement somehow on the VMP side...it's possible they were not allowed to advertise it having the original samples or something like that. I know it was frustrating though for a lot of people.

What ones can you think of

Preferably of more modern music (like not jazz and after the 50s)

Kinks box is another AAA example but may be harder to find now.
