He's obliquely mentioned the country track and selling it to upper mgmt on discord. Specifically that it was not a hard sell, given that everyone felt it was time to expand tracks, and they were going to do country and then rock but then Dolly basically called them up and were like "we liked how you did coat of many colors and we would like to do an expanded vinyl thing, would VMP like to be the ones to do it" and so rock was basically postponed because the logistics of adding three tracks did not work.
I'm not a huge country guy -- and in fact before listening to some of the stuff vmp has put on offer i would have said i wasn't a country guy at all -- but I think the curation here is a delicate balance and they're both trying to stick to things that they like that will sell and that they can get and do a good job on. Country's still a pretty young track, so there's 'classic must-have' stuff that's not going to have had a chance; because it's been pushed out by more popular stuff or just lack of opportunity. Like, how can you not have any Hank Williams? Well, sundazed just dropped a really nice mono hank reissue and people love 90s country and a lot of 90s country does not have great issues. I think his curation does lean a certain way but so far it's working for them.
