Vinyl Me Please Country

I’m thinking this one maybe? It’s the first one that pops up on ITunes (says 1996) but Discogs shows 1995 Chalino Sánchez - 15 Exitos 15.

My neighbor used to absolutely blast this kind of music to the point of rattling our pictures on the walls. Never got into it. Didn’t care for the neighbor either. My wife thought it sounded too much like the polka we used to hear at church picnics in WI growing up  I’m sure it’ll please a lot of people though and kudos to VMP for branching out in the County track if this is the pick.
It does have a very polka vibe, lol. The accordion is loved by nerds and narcos, I guess.

I just don't understand how we can be two years in and we haven't had a George Jones, Hank Williams, Charley Pride, Kitty Wells record. I could go on and on. But we have had two Sturgill albums and two Waylon albums and looks like we are getting a second Willie album late this year.
Might be licensing or label issues?

I would find that hard to believe. Country is like Hip Hop without the added complexity of sampling, the labels pretty much think of it as disposable. I'm guessing it is more about Storf and curation. I love him (i know whatever, bite me, he loves music), but his Country knowledge isn't that deep and he likes Bro country there are probably a lot of fights over really Sam Hunt dude, are you sure? And I'm betting the old stuff is a hard sell to the execs at VMP.

He's obliquely mentioned the country track and selling it to upper mgmt on discord. Specifically that it was not a hard sell, given that everyone felt it was time to expand tracks, and they were going to do country and then rock but then Dolly basically called them up and were like "we liked how you did coat of many colors and we would like to do an expanded vinyl thing, would VMP like to be the ones to do it" and so rock was basically postponed because the logistics of adding three tracks did not work.

I'm not a huge country guy -- and in fact before listening to some of the stuff vmp has put on offer i would have said i wasn't a country guy at all -- but I think the curation here is a delicate balance and they're both trying to stick to things that they like that will sell and that they can get and do a good job on. Country's still a pretty young track, so there's 'classic must-have' stuff that's not going to have had a chance; because it's been pushed out by more popular stuff or just lack of opportunity. Like, how can you not have any Hank Williams? Well, sundazed just dropped a really nice mono hank reissue and people love 90s country and a lot of 90s country does not have great issues. I think his curation does lean a certain way but so far it's working for them.

Actually, now that I think on it, I think some of this discussion was somewhat longer answer in the VMP Rock Q&A, which is going to be made into a podcast. So if you're curious about the inner workings and are like, driving somewhere or stuck at a desk....

i honestly wonder if chalino sanchez will be controversial... because his music doesn't sound like what most people would call "country", I mean putting him on a playlist next to someone like hank williams or conway twitty and people will definitely turn their heads with the bigger polka influence he has

I’m fine with it. It’s better than at least two or three country titles so far without even hearing the whole thing. To me the more controversial title this quarter is Ramblin Jack Elliott.
