Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I'll more than likely still bite... mostly because I'm pathetic.

The Beatles should be on black vinyl and I just picked up the 3LP from my local. It’s gorgeous. Support your local and get the premium product.

Is it going to be the record of the month? I haven't been keeping up with the monthly guesses and whatnot.

Nah that’s the Lips after the actual album cover being the hugely cryptic clue last night...

In all honesty it's probably just Storf thinking Soft Bulletin release is going to be the same "bomb" it would have been ten years ago, or like everyone already hasn't figured it out.

Oh and there is no way they get an exclusive of Abbey Road, just like how they weren't getting an exclusive Monster.

Yeah completely, I can’t remember there even being retailer exclusives of any new release of an album by The Beatles, they don’t need to do it, they sell very easily on name recognition alone.

Storf's comment on reddit in response to someone saying they highly doubt VMP gets any Beatles exclusives was "*laughs like George Harrison in the background of Yellow Submarine*"

Despite Storf's games, I still hold that no way it's the Abbey Road 50th. 0 incentive for label to give that concession on one of the hottest reissues of the year with multiple deluxe editions out already.

If it's Abbey Road... I'm fine with the copy I have. It's a must own, no doubt, but I am not a duplicate buyer.

I'm usually not, but occasionally I find it a necessity.

Two examples:

1. I own an original of the Sparks LP No. 1 In Heaven, but ended up buying a reissue to play because my original is almost unlistenably sibilant
2. I own an original of Robert Pollard's Not In My Airforce, but bought the reissue for two reasons: a) retire my original copy, and b) the reissue follows the tracklisting that Pollard originally intended for release.

In this case, if you already own Abbey Road, of which there is no shortage of copies, then I get why you might pass.
I personally am waiting for the day when there is a reissue of Low's I Could Live In Hope because it's terribly out of print, very expensive to acquire even second-hand, and I'm curious to see what another issuing would improve upon (if it does).

With a little help from my fwiends 2 exclusive. This time the lips covering abbey road?
If this was real, and they bundled it with the 50th Abbey, that would actually be amazing.
And what would be the incentive for vmp to announce it on the day everybody has just picked up their copy or receives their preorder?
If they did a fairly limited run (like 1000), but only offered it to active members with 3 month (or greater) subscription, they would probably see a nice bump in revenue to close out Q3. It would probably still sell out in 24 hours or less. That would be a pretty good incentive.
Or maybe they wanted to announce it earlier, but it's possible part of the deal with the label was that it couldn't be announced until release day.

Either way, I would be pretty shocked if they actually got an Abbey Road exclusive. If they did, I would think they are selling it at a premium and using it as a loss leader to gain street cred and/or monthly subs. ESPECIALLY if you could only see that it's sold out after you log in as a subscriber. That would be a cold blooded business move, and I wouldn't put it past VMP to do that.

I'd be the last person to begrudge anyone doing what they want with their own collections! And your examples make a lot of sense. I could definitely see maybe swapping out a variant of something I adore, but I have yet to actually do it.
