How is it? Scale from 1 to 10?
It is nothing like what I was expecting.

Also really liking the artwork. The actual jacket though...kind of disappointing. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but not this...it feels like really cheap stock. The last 2 months actually
But yeah when I saw the artwork in the trailer I thought "ok this is a cool insert that comes with the vinyl" but seeing it as the art was very nice
First thing I noticed with The Roots is that this is a different master compared to the OG, maybe the CD? Not surprising since there’s been talk that the original masters were thought to be lost in the Universal Fire (someone mentioned that here I think). There’s a false start on The Seed on the OG and this one doesn’t have that. There might be other differences as well that I’m not picking up. I think there are slight pauses between songs on the OG and not the case on the VMP. Break You Off sounds absolutely terrible on VMP one (lots of distortion in the vocals, the instruments sound good though. Maybe a line stylus might be able to make it sound better if it’s a tracking issue) and sounds better on the OG but not by much. I’m only through record one but those are the major differences I’ve noticed so far. Maybe a touch more bass on the VMP version. Both versions sound quite good for what it’s worth (minus Break You Off and The Seed to some extent), especially side one.
The packaging is fantastic though! Really like the comic art print and the redesigned cover art is cool too. Wish it was a nice gatefold but the OG is a single sleeve too.

Thanks for taking the time to do this!Quills and Pussy Galore have pretty distorted vocals too. Side 4 is sounding great though... Complexity is fantastic.
All For Love. There was a period a few years ago that I would sing this every night I was drunk.
You may have kickstarted a new era of this. Some tune.
VMP admitted that ryan smith was given digital files for this reissueFirst thing I noticed with The Roots is that this is a different master compared to the OG, maybe the CD? Storf & Co said:New lacquers were cut by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound from digital sources
Which isn’t a bad thing to be fair. It does sound pretty good minus a few songs that will never sound good. Just too bad that they couldn’t use the original master for whatever reason.VMP admitted that ryan smith was given digital files for this reissue
just wanted to note that.. yes it has been confirmed that this is a digitally sourced master... personally doesn't bug me as i know the science behind a digital file means that as long as the album as the rest of the process (mastering, plating, pressing) is fine it will have no sonic issues, and whats important to me, no specific parts of the music lost, like a missing detail that could make it beautifulWhich isn’t a bad thing to be fair. Yeah figured so muchThe original master was sadly lost in a fire.
The false start is on the original vinyl. It’s pretty cool actually and gives a real live band in studio type of sound to it. I might be able to rip both copies to audacity and share them if anyone cares. Not sure when I will have the time though.also to note.. maybe its because i only heard the spotify, but the seed sounds perfectly fine (maybe a little brighter and doesn't have as much of a bassy punch which is weird because the bass was pretty prominent here) and i didn't notice any missing false start
As do I.I love that Phoenix record
I really can't get into Caroline Rose. Lots of my friends are into her, and she seems up my alley genre-wise but I can't get into it at all, and the new songs of this record aren't doing it for me either. Am I alone on this one??
