I'm going with The Late Greats - Turpentine.
It IS the greatest lost track of all time.

THEM is a possibility- they have already done Van Morrison. No idea if they have something never on vinyl before. I’d likely swap but whatever, willing to take a chance on whatever the pick may be.I guess this list might be a good place to start? I'm thinking it's gotta be some sort of compilation situation, right? List of proto-punk bands - Wikipedia
All these guesses are making me think this LP isn’t gonna be quite as acclaimed as Storf had stated. No offense to any of these artist but these are a bit underwhelming. Shame on me for buying into the hype. It would though explain why they just wouldn’t give the name of the release for the month, it’s easier to build FOMO.
Agree with the mined comment. I’d be surprised if it was a solid deep find, but it’s either super specific/abstract/limited appeal or incorrectly characterized as Proto-Punk.Yeah, with soul you can pull off something like Nat Turner because there was SO MUCH quality underground soul music in so many cities that we may never unearth it all- Numero will die trying.
But punk/"proto-punk"? Virtually anything that is relevant to that scene has been mined. I'm really curious what selling point this one has.
IMO, proto-punk sounds loosely what people consider ‘punk’ so VMP will liner note it up to make it fit. Stooges and MC5 are maybe my go-to examples but I think there are too many to mention and I don’t care where punk came from anymore. They should just do Grunge because I selfishly just want Seaweed to get reissues. And let's be real and strip the "punk" label off of this clue. Because no punk label that would have anything scene relevant on the scale of the DEATH reissue would hock it to a record of the month club.
I support this. I am completely unfamiliar with this band but after a quick google search discovered they are from Tacoma and have an LP named Spanaway so clearly they have to be amazing. I am downloadling their discography as I type this.IMO, proto-punk sounds loosely what people consider ‘punk’ so VMP will liner note it up to make it fit. This made me smile to read! Fantastic band. I’ve been trying to track down all of their singles and they are really the best at blending grudge and punk from that era.I support this. Man I would love that Talking Heads, but I’ve got a feeling this is going to be an Ayalew Mesfin scenario...I have no idea who it would be, but it feels like an out of left field, uncovered treasure type of thing. The Clash's soundtrack to the film Rude Boy was only ever released as a cassette (according to Discogs). Would Storf consider them "proto-"?
It also looks like the full version of Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense is only available on CD (once again, according to Discogs). Not sure if either of these would qualify as proto-punk, but both bands have enough name recognition to warrant the Essentials track.
At this point, I'm inclined to lean the way that @Mather is leaning and go with some sort of compilation album of Los Saicos singles. Seems the plausible to me at this point.
I'll have you know there are at least dozens of us Mormons who know proper punk and hardcore genre classifications. DOZENS!
Also, is he really?
its going to be like wells fargo where it was made around the 60s or so but never actually came to america or the world so they made a compilation with now againI’m lost on the essentials. What the hell could it even be in ‘69 that never got a vinyl release?
Well that likely precludes Los Saicos, most of their output was 65-66. Although their final single released was in 69 so if they're going by the latest date of the last single it would work for a singles comp album. So actually nevermind it's totally Los Saicos. Confirmed.Hint #2 from Storf:
1969
1968
2010
the thing is there already IS a singles collection and its available on vinyl on bandcamp for 16 eurosWell that likely precludes Los Saicos, most of their output was 65-66.
