You're doing it wrong!

You put the record on the platter. You apply the fluid. You turn on the vaccuum and you slowly rotate the record 2-3 times. Done. Results are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the Spin Clean, which I bought and used on 20 records before deciding it was an absolute piece of trash and returned.

I mean I’m not going near it ,for lots of reasons, and my little spin clean has cleaned my 800 or so records without any issues. I will get an RCM eventually but it’ll be a proper one.

am i just lucky to get fairly decent results with the spin clean.. the most i get is still a little bit of static and stuff at the very START of the record and if its just a bad pressing more on the other sides.. after a single wash

also a squeaky clean requires a water vacuum and a RCM takes a lot of space so im stuck with it for now

My guess is the GZ press is gunna be noisier with more general issues but will sound a little better in terms of the mastering...

I just played my VMP OutKast straight through and it sounded pretty flawless for me in terms of noise and pops, I don't have the MOV to compare it to but I'm happy with it.

I don’t like the Spin Clean at all either. Wished I didn’t clean it with hundreds of records. Wish I returned it back then! 👎

The Spin Clean is like an Urban Outfitters kinda product to me in terms of quality; very mixed results/cheap kinda model.

When you say a ‘proper’ Record Cleaning Machine (RCM), what machine do you plan on purchasing!? I’m curious to know what RCM you want to purchase as I’m sure you would pick a high quality one!

Incorrect! It’s an excellent, if somewhat rudimentary, product. It’s very straightforward and easy to use. You however clearly operate it like a UO sales assistant. Sloppy, disinterested, cutting corners and wishing you were anywhere else altogether.

If I don’t quite have the dosh when the time comes I’ll settle for the project VC-S2

By proper RCM I just mean an actual product, not a Heath Robinson job that someone has cobbled together at home.
 
I’ve pimped this before, but the KAB EV-1 is a great in-between of the Spin Clean and the expensive motorized RCMs. I’ve cleaned probably over 2000 records with it over 15 years and never had an issue. I’ve been able to use every vacuum I’ve had with it (shop vacs, uprights with a hose, dyson stick vacs). You don’t need separate accessories for 7” or 10” records. Only thing I’ve ever spent on it is to replace the felt pad occasionally.

It’s basically a manual version of the Nitty Gritty motorized vacuum RCMs. The EV-1’s been in production for 25+ years so they’re not some fly by night operation .

Yes, it’s manual so you gotta turn it yourselves you lazy bastards.

The arm should not touch the record. The Squeaky Clean has no felt. RCM motors are less powerful for cost and size reasons. The force of the vacuum on the arm keeps it locked in place, no force at all on the record - the vacuum is pulling up, not pushing down.

I dont want ANY arm touching the record. I DO want lots of vacuum power getting the crap out of the grooves.

Over 2000 records done this way, no rings carved. But I do seem to have a real shortage of returns or 'defects'.

Okay so on most RCMs the vacuum arm has felt runners and the suction power keeps the felt lined arm attached to the vinyl surface as it completes its rotations while suctioning up the liquid. But with the Squeaky Clean the arms actually sits above of the record, and suctions up with a small distance between the arm and the record?

My squeaky clean arm has felt... even if you open the adjustable valve all the way, even most cheap shop vacs will create enough suction pull the record up to the arm. If there isn't some type of soft fabric you would just scratch the record on the plastic I would think...
