Vinyl Me Please Essentials

No sweat bub! They do include them, yours are just missing! Start a campaign!
I find it humorous that you seem to have no issue whatsoever with a company charging $200 for a 2 LP box set, then shipping two dished discs, forgetting to include the two 8/10 photos that are essentially the only extras that come with the set, and also numbering the box twice. Are you that much of a corporate apologist? Or are you just stinking rich?

And just for the record, I will accept no answer other than one of the two listed above. That's what you get to choose from. Or a combination of the two, if you're feeling spicy.

Fair enough, but I do find that VMP's packaging is quite good. I have never received anything other than a perfect record and cover. I do have a problem, though, with blaming VMP constantly because it is obvious that some people have a problem with their local mail delivery person,or handling at their local depot. Or even I guess some people whose living situation is such that packages get tossed around, dropped or whatever.

The best way to ship a record is tight, with two layers of cardboard on each side to keep it very stiff. Movement in the box causes seam splits and corner crunching, other than, obviously, if the delivery truck drives over it or the delivery guy treats it like a frisbee.

I hate seamplits, but most I can fix with no noticeable signs. Bent corners, within reason, are not that big a thing. I have seen some pics here of egregious damage in shipping, but these sem to me to flow from handing in the postal system.

And I am not knocking anyone personally, but I am aware that there are many styli past their prime n use, or misaigned carts, or VTL settings not optimal, or tracking force not correct, or the table not being perfectly level, and a multitude of other user issues that account for many issues.

Even the choice of platter can have a big impact. Glass platters particularly, and felt mats.

I agree that a flaw is a flaw. I get them ocasionally. But not to the extent that a few do, and that makes me wonder why some get far more than a fair average. Maybe karma.
Fuck karma.

This is a lot of blaming the consumer. They advertise a high end quality product and, despite your personal good fortune; there is A LOT of documented issues with how they package their shipments is insufficient. You shouldn’t have to suck it up and accept a damaged product when you are paying a premium and the album jacket is part of that product. If I purchased a new car and it was cosmetically damaged during shipping no one would find that acceptable. Part of the appeal of this medium is the inherent collectibility of vinyl (which VMP leans into hard) but receiving a damaged jacket unfairly costs the collector through no fault of their own.

Hah! I am far from stinking rich!

But I would draw the line at double numbering a box. That would make me crazy, going back and forth between the two to figure out which is the true, original, unflitered, guaranteed, first and only first true number.

Yeah, I am feeling spicy today.

Blimey

There’s not a lot of Peace and goodwill to all men on this thread at the moment !

Still .... I know the thing that will make it better ...

A nice Keane album up for grabs as a PIF ...

But can’t post anywhere (thank you Macron) so collection only ..... open to all

I fixed it by taking a crayon and scrawling "0o1/2500 in massive letters across the front of the box. Just to clear things up.

You could do the equivalent of Secret Santa and send it to a random member, however with the unloved Keane album it would be more Ungrateful Grinch.

Just listening to the Billie Holiday now and have a random request. Has anyone read the book 'Black Resonance: Iconic Women Singers'?

I saw the title in the booklet, in the 'About The Author' section and thought it seemed like an interesting topic. I will add it to my list anyway but if anyone has read it and could offer up some opinions that would be great.

So, I use genre tags when I catalogue my digital music collection and I used to have separate categories for Alternative Country, Americana, Bluegrass, and Country music but then I watched the Ken Burns PBS Doc County Music and realized how much they were all connected and went through recategorized everything under “Country & Western” and I feel much better about it all.

Here’s Childers Quote -
“As a man who identifies as a country music singer, I feel Americana ain’t no part of nothin. It is a distraction from the issues that we are facing on a bigger level as country music singers. It kind of feels like ‘Purgatory’.”
Not that my decision was tied to the Ken Burns Doc...but the idea that all the music I consume is all connected somewhat through the roots of blues has resulted in 1 Genre Category in my digital collection, regardless of the artist or popular/accepted conception of its genre: “Rock N Roll”.

Yah, I believe in very large umbrellas for musical categorization.

something to note about the rhino reissue of john prine...

its incredibly hard to get unless you are using discogs (though it seems cheap, there is the issue of there being shipping fees added on so it will cost upwards of 50 dollars)

bullmoose does not have it, amazon doesn't have it (except maybe a few 3rd party sellers), i didn't even realize this until i searched for it after relistening to the album and thinking "hmm.. i dont mind these first 4 songs, maybe if i have more money i can buy this and have it grow on me". so the excuse of a readily available reissue doesn't work as well because that "readily available" recent reissue is not really that available and it might actually be for some people a cheaper and easier way to obtain the record (and im not saying cheaper because its cheap because 40 dollars is a lot to spend and i do agree that VMP is overpricing its records, but it actually is probably the cheapest way to get the album in the US right now besides getting an original pressing)

It's now readily available in the UK for around £20.

I got a copy shipped from America earlier in the year, as none of the previous Rhino re-issues were made available in the UK, so didn't expect this to be. I'm not sure how well it will sell in the UK.

I only really started listening to John Prine after hearing the Tree of forgiveness and missed out on the 217 release. It's a great album and a great pick. Although, I have a good copy, so will probably pass.
