You might just have a deal. I am dealing with Skippy right now.I'd just like to formally state that I will gladly take a skippy Prine off of someone's hands, at long as it's not a crackly Prine.

Wow eh, I'm not sure I've seen one that's skipping on so many different systems since Gorillaz...You might just have a deal. I am dealing with Skippy right now.
It's probably from the mix now that a see others' posts. The fact that it would skip, I would get my camera ready to video it, and then the skip wouldn't be there in the same spot is driving me MAD. And it's going to ruin Flag Decal for me at least for a few years just anticipating skips that may or may never come.Wow eh, I'm not sure I've seen one that's skipping on so many different systems since Gorillaz...
Yeah I mean if it's that prevalent I'm inclined to say that's a bad mastering or cutting job, rather than gear. It'll be interesting to see if they have to repress, depending on how many people have the issue...It's probably from the mix now that a see others' posts. I'm at the point now of jut playing through it repeatedly hoping I cut the grooves a bit deeper *cringe* just to get a copy that plays all the way through.Yeah I mean if it's that prevalent I'm inclined to say that's a bad mastering or cutting job, rather than gear. Yeah that's not cool. That's something they should fix.I'm at the point now of jut playing through it repeatedly hoping I cut the grooves a bit deeper *cringe* just to get a copy that plays all the way through.
Fell asleep? Did the.... did the record just spin till you woke up in the morning?
-nervous sweating-
I honestly think GZ is the worst pressing plant on the planet currently. I don't see a single plant putting out as much consistent garbage pressings as they do. I got two non VMP GZ pressings last week. Kinks Lola and Black Pumas 2 LP. The only reason I got the 2 LP was because my 1 LP splatter copy is a poppy mess, guess who pressed that one too... GZ. So Lola is covered in random crackle, new Pumas also covered in random crackle. Replaced Lola with a second copy and it's completely flawless. They are so insanely inconsistent I don't even buy anything they make unless it can be returned.I'm waiting on my second replacement. The first one was significant warped. The second not as much, but still slightly warped. Both have played through without skipping, but have definite audio issues particularly with Prine's vocals. It definitely sounds like it was mastered too hot. Yet I keep seeing some folks who claim their copy sounds fantastic. I'm not super hopeful about the next copy, but we'll see.
Night Mather is a lot of things, but he has an almost otherworldly tolerance for alcohol. He does not leave records spinning no matter how many whiskeys he has consumed. I thank him for that, but otherwise screw that guy. You’re telling me night Mather hasn’t been drinking your whiskey and playing your records and fallen asleep on the sofa?

Didn't some of the cheaper turntables have the same issue with Demon Days? Not just Crosleys?Skipping is weird, like, I've had every issue under the sun from VMP and pretty much any other label but I've never had a single skip on my system. Including albums that specifically are known to skip. So I do think there is something to be said for the idea that setup and gear affects skipping issues. But it's not like you're using a suitcase Crosley or something... so that's strange. Are your speakers on the same surface as your TT? Do both copies skip in the same spots? But either way didn't you say it's crackly too? Just send them audio of the crackle. That should be enough to get a replacement...

I certainly think gear has something to do with skips, particularly on hot pressings.
Ok, I remember reading something about one of their presses being really hot on cheaper turntables, but could be mis-remembering.The Demon Days was a manufacturing error on early presses. It skipped on 4 different cartridges for me, two of which were known good trackers. There were too many issues for too many people across too many different tables and cartridges for that one to be blamed on them. It was fixed for later presses.

A few of them had a locked groove as well. I signed up for the first time specifically for Gorillaz and I had 2 copies that had the locked groove. It was on a specific part of a track for everyone and they had me send a clip of that part presumably for proof.Didn't some of the cheaper turntables have the same issue with Demon Days? I've listened to it a couple of times and don't remember any noticeable popping, but it was mostly while making dinner or around the dinner table. I'll give it another closer listen today.Did anyone else have problems with the Billie Holiday's pressing? Mine has popping throughout on both sides. I asked for a replacement, but I'm worried that other copies will sound just as poor.
Definitely don't sleep on Tree of Forgiveness. I know people can write off recent/late albums by long legacy artists but I love it. Top notch.Having finally listened to Prine over the weekend, my main takeaway is anger...at myself for sleeping on Prine for so long. What are the next 2-3 Prine albums I need to get? They have all been reissued recently, right?
I just revisited it a few days ago. Such a great record! I particularly enjoyed "The Lonesome Friends of Science" having stopped at the Vulcan in Birmingham during a 20-year anniversary road trip with my wife.Definitely don't sleep on Tree of Forgiveness.
