Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Really? What does the wait-list email look like? I'm not sure it matters if they send an email out to everyone not on the wait list for it at the same time, though.
Mine was actually a plain text one with the VMP logo saying it's available and portions of the proceeds go to the Dumile family. I think other's got one with the price too. But the link was definitely open to members and non-members alike with both pricing on the page.

EDIT: Here's the full text. Thankfully I got mine long before VMP poked the hornet's nest with a DOOM shaped stick.

On October 31st, 2020, the world lost the prolific and legendary talent, musician, rapper, producer, and creator Daniel Dumile, best known by his stage name MF DOOM.

A master, pillar, and game-changer of underground hip-hop, his substantial legacy and impact will be observed and honored for countless generations of music enthusiasts to come.

Following his passing, VMP is restocking 500 units of our pressing of his fifth studio album, MM..FOOD, and a portion of the sales will be donated to Dumile’s wife, Jasmine, and family.

Because you are on the waitlist for this title, we just wanted to give you a heads up. Head here to purchase MM..FOOD.

Interesting, mine is the formatted one, with exactly the same text, except those last two sentences, and was sent at 12:05pm EST. So they are sending them earlier to waitlisters? That's better than nothing.

I got mine at 12:06pm EST. VMP got buried in a mountain of internet-hate just before 1...seriously, the reddit thread is a giant dumpster fire.

Ha, guess I'm lucky then. If I had checked it then maybe I should have used the "exploit" of them sending me a direct link even though I'm not a member so I could give them to others on here. Fortunately I have a copy for myself. Glad you were able to get one.

Oh I got mine a couple months back when it was up for swaps. I probably should've picked my battles because I honestly feel bad for Pauly right now, but my point still stands that this needs to not happen. There's quite a few popular titles I would love to come back in stock (I joined after missing QOTSA and De La Soul for example) but as a member I think we should get first dibs on them before they show up on /r/vinylreleases/ or in the hands of flippers. I am 100% on board if they want to sell to non members after 24-48 hours, but give us a chance first. We're the ones paying the membership fees.

I don't think this was a mistake, they saw that there was an opportunity to sell a ton of albums at the non-member price and were standing there licking their lips and rubbing their hands together.

Not a member, not on the want list, got an email at 12:05.

I swear last time this "loophole" thing came up they did the same thing, refunded those non members and swore that they'd fix this issue... mission accomplished

Haven't they stated in the past that those lists don't count as dibs or anything, their sole purpose is just to help them gauge interest for repress priority? Maybe I dreamed that.

No you’re right, I remember seeing that too and have never heard of anyone ever being contacted through a waitlist email.

Case in point: I waitlisted Monk’s Palo Alto literally 15 minutes after it sold out. I was never given any early heads up it was briefly back in the store on Wednesday.

Pretty broad first clue if we assume it's like Country and that's the artist's album number. Although I guess we can start speculating on somebody who had a good fourth album.

Edit: Ludacris - Chicken-n-Beer lol

World rap? Never heard of that genre. I guess they mean non-usa rap. Hard to imagine them doing a non english rap album for essentials.

They've done some off-the-wall stuff for Essentials before. It would be pretty trollish of them to celebrate their 100th ROTM with one, though. On the other hand, 100 is just a number and it's not one they've particularly hyped up so far...

Essentials thread is thinking it's M.I.A. which is as good a guess as any.

Sorry, didn't realize it was the wrong thread. Wonder why we don't refer to Beatles albums as world rock 🤔.

Some extremely random first albums I'd be down for:

Rjd2 - Deadringer
Slum Village - Fan-Tas-Tic (or Fantastic Vol. 2 depending how you want to order those)
Jon Doe - Meet Jon Doe (gonna plug this album every day 'til I die)
Nujabes - Metaphorical Music
ODB - Return to the 36 Chambers
No Malice - Hear Ye Him

Oh and for a fourth album what about Geto Boys - We Can't Be Stopped?

Maybe mc solaar or something. Saying Mia is world music of any kind seems a stretch

From the wiki about kala
M.I.A. initially planned to work with American producer Timbaland for the bulk of the album, but was unable to gain a long-term work visa to enter the US. She hence recorded the album at numerous locations around the world, including India, Angola, Trinidad, Liberia, Jamaica and Australia. M.I.A. and Switch relied heavily on the digital audio workstation Logic Pro and recorded additional vocals and background sounds outside the traditional studio environment. Kala incorporates prominent influences from South Asian music, featuring samples of Bollywood and Tamil cinema. The album draws on various styles, from funk carioca to African folk. The songs are about political themes related to the Third World, including illegal immigration, poverty and capitalism.
