Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

I was referencing their It Was Written. I do have that Illmatic (the TTL exclusive, yes? In fact, I'm the one complaining about TTLs CS although I've since changed my tune) and it is good. The EU is better (Nas – Illmatic (2017, Vinyl)) but it's certainly serviceable.

GoD can pull off good stuff. And VMP can certainly, certainly, certainly put out some shit. I guess I was getting at that my confidence level between the two - if we're going in blind with no prior reviews - would be that VMP is more likely to turn out something good.
Yeah, I was referencing your comment on Discogs not on here.

Ah ha ha. I got ya.

Yea, I don't think my comment is too negative regarding the pressing. In fact, my complaint was about TTL. It was more that at the time resellers were asking a mark up that I didn't think was warranted - unless someone HAD to have the color - for the pressing. It was fine. Fine for what TTL charged for it.

Yeah sorry, I guess I think of “fine” as less than glowing. My copy was flat and fairly static free and I remember being pretty impressed the the amount of bass that came through considering it’s all on a single disc. I also remember hearing plenty of stories about TTL being a bitch about returns when they first started up doing Exclusive pressings. I have been lucky for the most part. Even though they all seem to use existing cuts and just press their exclusives on colored wax I have had really good luck with them. I would say I have more than a dozen and have been pretty happy with those for the most part. I have had really good luck with Get On Down pressings too. That being said, I agree with you on trusting VMP more than TTL or GOD, it might take me multiple attempts but I can usually get a quality replacement from VMP if someone is fucked up, I think VMP gives better odds.

Yea, it's funny that person who responded to me about TTLs customer service and their good experience made me rethink my thoughts on them. That instance annoyed me but TTL has actually been fair to me other times; so I have to remember not to let one time poison the well, necessarily.

Yea, I could see how "fair" might not sound glowing. But I literally meant it as middle of the road. I'd put it on and groove. I'm not gonna go telling people I found THE version of Illmatic. But I won't steer them away, either (again, unless they were thinking of paying some scalped price in the hopes of being in audio heaven).

Did someone say "overpay for audio heaven"? What I miss? Who do I throw my money at?

Okay I put in like seven bids, I may be bidding against myself but gotta be sure to get that sweet sweet Billy J!
LOL, I wasn’t too far off…
Remember before ya make fun, this dude was married to Christy Brinkley.

Let's hope the vmp master is better than the GoD one

Was it when PUTS was done?

If not they didn't have to break the sacred rule that stops them from just bombarding is with the same 5 artists (so expect a ton more Madlib or Prince Paul stuff) that is "one per track".. just make it an exclusive varient that doesn't even need a limit

I am so freaking excited for the VMP OutKast ATLiens pressing!!! I’m really happy to hear that it received the half-speed mastered treatment! Even though I’ve already got ATLiens on vinyl, I’m super excited for this VMP edition! Hoping it also sounds a bit better too with the pressing being remastered! 😍😍😍

And oh my goodness, I cannot wait for the September R&HH ROTM - Public Enemy’s Fear of a Black Planet! 🌍🙉💥

If ‘It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back’ gets the 2LP Essentials treatment, my heart will be pounding with joy and I won’t be able to focus at work! 😂♥️

The VMP pressing is mastered at half speed. The 45 is the only thing exclusive to Get On Down so the 4LP will be widely available.

is the studio album of the 4LP version also 1/2 speed mastered or is that exclusive to VMP?

As someone who's musically illiterate, does half speed mastering mean anything or is it a gimmick to sell another version?

Also, pretty sure the real sell of the VMP version is that Listening Notes tho.....

TLDR Version: From my understanding of what I've read, the half speed mastering allows for a more accurate and precise cut since both the audio source and lathe is run at half speed. It's definitely not a gimmick.

Much more detailed explanation here.

Yeah like a lot of things with vinyl, it CAN sound better, it can also sound no different and it can also sound worse. But for all the grief VMP gets I think one of their strong suits is remastering the RHH records they release. Almost all of them are a fair shot better than previous vinyl pressings of the same albums, and I'd be willing to bet that this is no different. OutKasts albums were generally really well recorded and mixed so I'm guessing their version of ATliens is gunna be pretty solid. Hell my Newbury version sounds pretty damn good and there's nothing special about it that I can tell in terms of remastering or anything.

When do I add this track to get outkast?

EDIT: wait re-reading do you mean you are an active sub on another track and when should you add the secondary track? If so, you can do that now (doesn't charge until the first). You can actually add it once SWAPs lock technically.

Correct i am subscribed to the other 3 tracks but I want to add outkast. So I can add it now?
Whew I forgot they had 4 tracks now so was super confused at your question 🤣.

Yes you can add it now and you won't be charged until 8/1. I added mine like a week ago (though I'm going to swap to it from Essentials when it opens - I'm just a tweak and protecting against some crazy rush on it which isn't likely with the wider press now too).

When you hit the Add Track button the pop up modal does a pretty good job explaining it imo
