Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Some other charity is going to receive a box of five $25000 checks and the recipient will get an email from Paulie saying wow they made a big oops and things are busy right now but they are getting a copy of the greatest record stores book and store credit instead now. The recipient of the box of $25k checks will be given a chance to return them for a test pressing of Mr. Hands

@NathanRicaud will be given a lifetime membership to Classics for applauding the moves all around.
Well, I did email the VMP team last night telling them how proud I am of them, and how much I love them all and also how heartfelt I was, with their response and donations! ❤

But I did that because I love VMP so much and am honestly very proud of them as a company! 💯

Still waiting on that response on CS regarding the whole getting charged early thing. Made sure to cancel so I didn't get charged, so who wants to take a wild guess on how long it'll take for them to refund me the month I will now not be getting?

It could really just go without saying that racism and murdering unarmed people is wrong, but maybe they’ll put it in writing for you guys. I just automatically assume most people think that stuff is wrong and don’t need my inbox cluttered with every company’s official response .

It goes without saying and that's the problem. Also, I thought you were going to ignore this, but I see that you just kept fucking talking.

Is it a meaningless statement? No. Is it disingenuous? Probably. Is it still the right move? Definitely. Primarily, because they are sure to get backlash from privileged people that give more of a shit about themselves and records than acknowledging horrific injustices. It's a move that claims they are willing to risk backlash to speak up about what's right, even though an argument could be made that they were forced into a corner and had to say something. With the artists they benefit from, not speaking up would have said a lot. And still, I'm sure that they've gotten backlash, because that's how racist this shit is. People just want the minstrel show.

So here's how I'm going to lay this out. Fuck your inbox. And fuck whether or not you'd prefer that other people discuss issues that not only effect entire races of people, or even the world at large, but their own lives in very real and personal ways.

As a person who deals with racism in every facet of my life, you've clearly expressed how little my life matters to you. If you want to scoop up art by melanated artists, but don't give a shit about their struggles, then you just want them tapdancing for you. If you're buying hip hop records, you're fetishizing those struggles and experiences.

If you didn't want to hear about these issues in this thread and claimed you were just going to ignore it, then you could do that without announcing it. Plus, you didn't ignore it, you kept chiming in. So guess what I'd rather not hear? Your compulsion to make sure we see your eye rolls.

You are the reason that VMP hesitates to speak up. They have a customer base that's going to complain about them making that statement. Those people are RACIST.

These are politicsl albums. If you love listening to black artists discuss poverty, and dehumanization, being shot at, harrassed by law enforcement, murdered, and/or killing each other, but that's not political to you, then that's voyeurism and fetishism. That's like watching a lynching for entertainment.

Ignore it and don't engage. Once you start trying to silence and undermine voices, we have an issue.

Edit:

I see that you mentioned that your wife is black. Doesn't matter. My mom is a white Jewish lady and she's just starting to acknowledge and recognize that she doesn't get it. In fact, your comments are almost more fucked up, considering.

It was fun talking about music with you guys . I clearly upset some folk, so I’m just gonna bounce You all stay safe and healthy. Maybe we’ll cross paths again somewhere.

No, don’t leave! It’s ok if you upset people, we’ve all done it before! We’re one big family in the end! 😊

I’ve made comments that have upset people. I’ve been really cocky and have said sexually inappropriate things in the past on here but I’m now on good terms with everyone! You weren’t even being as bad as I once was with your comments, you’re really just debating! 👨‍⚖️

it’s ok if there’s some disagreement! That’s normal! Also, I like how diverse we all are! That’s what makes this community unique and cool! 💯

Like I think Dead C put me on ignore for a bit earlier on this year! But we are really good friends now and enjoy a bit of a cheeky chat nowadays! 🙊

Stay on here and continue being yourself! I really like you’re company (love the fact you have/had two different VMP accounts rolling at once 🔥🔥🔥)!

It's a good step. I'm glad they donated some cash too. It isn't nothing.

Now all of their customers need to hold them accountable to follow-thru and implement the changes in the company and themselves they said they were going to make.

Let's see how they address the inequities in the industry they have been complicit in.

Everyone should hear what @Dead C is saying here. Look at yourself and look at the music you listen to and why. Look at what you are learning and gleaning from those hip hop albums, from those stax records... music can just be fun, music can just be about the beat or a good time, but we all have a responsibility to consider and understand where the art we listen to comes from and why.

Well, I got charged for a year at the full price of $306 even though previously I was being charged the grandfathered price of $284 from 2016 when I first joined. Hope they sort it out or I may have to cancel. No one's in the office right now though, I assume, so I'll give it some time.

EDIT: turns out it's taxes 🤷‍♂️

They probably charged $284 and then taxes brought it to $306. Idk what your sales tax is but that would be my guess.

I did, in fact, put you on ignore and I felt bad about it, even if I feel like I needed to, because I still cared about if it would hurt your feelings. It wasn't a performative gesture or to make a point, though. That was more so the equivalent of if your life is really stressful and you have a friend that keeps posting vacation photos. You might have to not see those for a while.

In this situation, I don't feel like we were only discussing music, though -- I also don't feel like we weren't discussing music, at all. I feel like someone said that something meant a lot to them and someone else told them not to discuss it, even though there were other people who it also clearly meant a lot to, because they didn't want to hear it. [That's white supremacy, bruh]. The pain and fear of other people bums them out. To me ... fuck, this is going to rhyme... but, that silence is violence and trying to silence other people and undermine them at every turn, is even worse. Just don't comment. Ignore it. With everything that's happening right now, that epitomizes the issue in such a concentrated and horrible way for me. That's benefiting from a group you can't even acknowledge the humanity of, while centering it around how everything effects yourself. Saying you're going to walk away does the same thing. Because you got challenged on something, the best thing to do is avoid it? That's not a bold move or sharp turn in another direction, it's just a continuation of the same approach. It pretends to say, "I'm leaving for you, because I acknowledge how what I'm doing affects you." But it doesn't respond to anything, it refuses to. So, what it really says is "I said that I'm going to ignore this and I don't want to hear it, so whatever, you drove me out." They were literally challenging and trying to throw obstacles in the way of everyone else who felt that it was important and needed to discuss that. Let people breathe, right now, if they need to. Your voice isn't being oppressed, because other people asked you to stop trying to oppress theirs.

If you being uncomfortable for a moment, because other people are discussing things that, for some of them, are issues that make them uncomfortable in almost every space in almost every moment of their life, think about some self reflection. If your solution is to bounce, because things got serious and all you wanted to do was talk about the beat, but not allow space for the pain that created it... I don't know.

I'll just say that discussing music and art is more than only focusing on pressing quality and dynamic range. That's just the medium.

I don't need to push this anymore, but for anyone who does want to discuss things on this level, there is a BLM thread that @gouis started, right here. If anyone feels that's a conversation they can contribute to and/or gain something from and is interested in doing either, here you go.

New law requires online sales tax, I think it went into effect late last year.

The stupidest thing about the whole site update debacle (aside from the wholly incompetent execution) was that the sales tax law is almost entirely why they forced it to happen when they did. If they'd just been honest about that, people might have been more understanding of the timing.

the best part was it didn't even start working until Jan and even then it only worked on one of my add ons for a couple months lol

2 real quick things and I will be out of your hair forever
1 Nathan you are awesome, you stay positive You’re a super cool dude hit me up if you need anything .

2. Dead C I was in no means attempting to censor anyone to any of whatever you were trying to say . I’m not watching this on TV , my neighborhood is decimated . All the stores are vandalized and boarded up . every mailbox and atm has been blown up . Bombs are going off all night Gunfire constantly as well as fire engines, police sirens and helicopters . men with guns are crouched on our rooftops looking to take out looters. I simply was weary of all of it and spend a couple of minutes looking at my record club and try to have some semblance of normalcy . I’m sorry I made you think I was trying to silence people’s voices. I was a bit cranky I haven’t slept much with the nonstop bedlam .
I’m certainly not a white supremacist and I didn’t want to go with that nonsense hanging over my head. No need to respond I won’t be reading it anyway. Stay safe out there everyone.

Glad I’m in the U.K. at the moment..scary stuff ..stay safe people

They did actually cite that as one of the reasons back then... but right before the migration happened I was charged sales tax for the first time on an order (which only showed up after I got Tina'd) and then after the migration finished I went back to being tax-free for another month or two.
