Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Probably worth noting that that particular insult has different degrees of severity depending on locality too. I try to avoid the word more for the sexist connotations in the way it's used in the U.S. than anything else but the insult is a gasper in the U.S. and not so much in other places.

Anyway, I'm an outsider all the way here, but my understanding is that Storf has (had?) been active in these communities and many had negative interactions with him,, can't say I'm surprised if the "inventing the editorial" got that kind of response back. It is pretentious beyond belief and the product seems like it's not exactly worth that much back patting for the price they charge. *shrug*

Storf is snarky for sure, but thats about it for me, he seems like a good guy who just loves his job and music otherwise. I’ve had plenty of good interactions with him and always appreciated the behind the scenes insight he brought to the old forum/reddit. And snark doesnt offend me in the least bit

He also said “inventing our editorial department”. I get alot of y’all hate him but in no way did he claim to invent editorial...

Just saying that others, in that thread, claim to have experienced more negative interactions that are probably coloring the discussions on this front. I doubt if he was well liked by the masses to begin with the discussion goes that way. Shaded by prior experience. I'd also argue invent has a different meaning than developed or built up (both of which are probably more appropriate for what the statement was) and if your job was writing and editorial you know the words you're using.

Anyway, Reddit is a ruder website than many. "Snarky ****", "Wanker", etc. are dramatically tamer than others get even if they probably don't need to be said.

Edit: The one other thing that was a bit of an eye roller was the "I knew from the moment I read her clips that she'd..." phrasing. So, that's much more of a personal pet peeve, but generally when you're praising someone else you really don't want to bring it back to yourself. I've done a decent amount of superlative writing about other folks in a business capacity and it just makes it look like you're patting yourself on the back when you do it: LOOK WHO I FOUND AND I KNEW IT. I don't think that's what he was doing here but it was the initial emotional feeling it gave off. People who don't like it should just ignore and move on (which I'll totally do now).

One of my mates can't deal with the phrase 'legend has it'. You can see the inner torment everytime he hears it 😂

Alright well. That's the specific point that people are pointing to referencing him claiming to have invented editorial. So there you have it.
Yeah dont see it at all. He joined a small company 5 years ago that had a POC for editorial created by Tyler then ran with that and created the editorial department and processes that they have now...In no way do I read that as ”inventing editorial”.

Most people don't go around using ridiculous statements like "basically inventing" to pat themselves on the back when they are hired to do a normal, common, job and perform it with mediocrity at best.

lol alright...
Sorry, I guess I've never seen anything that would make me consider him a good editor. In fact he has made many mistakes and at least at first, seemed completely averse to either researching, understanding, or correctly reporting pressing and mastering details of their products.

I don't understand why anyone would use a term like inventing to describe writing and soliciting freelancers, like every other website that publishes articles online.

You're right that name calling isn't called for, but he could go a long way to combat the vitriol by exercising a little humility about himself and certainly his opinions.

I mean, I read it as a typical signing off and handing over the reigns message. And on his personal twitter, not VMPs.

Regardless of your feeling on his writing abilities (I dont read most of the booklets so I cant comment on that) getting a process or division setup within a company is generally a pain in the ass. Of course he’s not the first one to ever do it, but it is a significant part of VMP now, which is itself a much bigger company with higher visibility than when he started. I could see being proud of that and the fact he gets to hand it off to someone while he focuses on new things.

Could he have been more humble? Sure...but it is his personal twitter and certainly (IMO) not a big enough deal as many are making it.
