Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Yeah I mean Shotgun Willie (and Folsom Prison) could've easily been Essentials, they are at least on par with the Prine and Townes Essentials IMO
I’m definitely getting Shotgun Willie! I didn’t really enjoy the other Willie Nelson exclusives VMP did in the past, but I really enjoy Shotgun Willie! I’m so happy that it’ll be getting the audiophile treatment/ROTM treatment! I love the tracks “Shotgun Willie”, “Whiskey River”, “Slow Down Old World” and “A Song For You”!

I’m in for Essentials, Country and Classics! If the R&HH is Freddie Gibbs, then I’ll definitely be skipping! Also, it’ll be good for me not to get all four tracks as it’ll save me a bit of money too! Cannot wait until they announce the ROTM’s and to see the pressing and mastering details of them all!

I posit an artist can have only one BEST album or work.
Are you suggesting PJ Harvey has multiple masterpieces, all of which are the 'best'?
Artists can have masterpieces as the ‘greatest’ is subjective. Is Bowie’s masterpiece Hunky Dory, Ziggy, Station To Station, Low, Scary Monsters or something else? All are heralded as his greatest by certain fans or reviewers and all are really special. It’s subjective. PJ Harvey’s masterpiece could be one of a number depending on mood, when it hits you and the critical standing of the time. I’d go for Stories From The City, but I’m also partial to To Bring You My Love, but that doesn’t make the White Chalk or Rid Of Me fans wrong. To me Beefheart’s masterpiece is Clear Spot, to others it’s Trout Mask. We’re both right, they are masterpieces.

I would posit that the word is capable of being used in different contexts and is more flexible than that rigid single definition.

In my opinion Dry, Is This Desire?, Stories and Let England Shake are masterpieces in contemporary rock.

But for me Dry is the masterpiece out of her discography.

Neither of those is an incorrect use of the word or in conflict with the other.

Yes. Let England Shake and Stories... are both masterpieces IMO. @NathanRicaud just listed Is This Desire as his pick. @Joe Mac has Dry. Many folks consider Rid of Me or To Bring You My Love to be perfect albums. Basically @Murfocakes 's point re: Bowie. This is obviously a silly discussion to have but it's still fun because it means we're talking about artists who have released a lot of great music. Personally, I would not put M.I.A. in that category.

I totally understand that, but many would put M.I.A. in that category in terms of at least having 3 masterpieces under their belt! M.I.A. is just very left field, futuristic, semi abrasive, very loud, colourful and political and she isn’t as easy on the ears compared to Kanye West, David Bowie, PJ Harvey, Radiohead etc

Piracy Funds Terrorism, Arular, Kala and MAYA I think are all considered very strong pieces and fans are always split between the four on what are their favourite, although a lot can see they are all masterpieces in their respect! MAYA is like the Yeezus in M.I.A.‘a discography; it’s industrial, extremely left field and is rough and volatile! Piracy Funds Terrorism is an absolute classic mixtape where M.I.A. does such good bars and tunes over instrumentals that were modern hip-hop-Esque classic bangers (Drop it Like It’s Hot, Ciars’s Goodies, Pass The Dutch, LL Cool J’s Headsprung) as well as 80’s semi new wave pop (When Doves Cry, Papa Don’t Preach, Push It). Like Diplo’s production/mixing on that mixtape is iconic. And then Kala and Arular are widely considered as masterpieces.

M.I.A. has what many consider are four masterpieces, but she’s very new age and her style is one many don’t like. She’s definitely in that category though of having multiple masterpieces where it’s evenly split in terms of what fans consider her best!
