Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

OMG guys! I think VMP will eventually do some Rosalia exclusives! I’m hoping they do a pressing of her next album and at least do an exclusive of her debut Los Angeles. If VMP did a Bad Bunny exclusive, it’s likely they’ll do a Rosalia exclusive! YAY TO THE YAYERRR! 😜

I'm not sure that makes it "likely," but I wish they had done an exclusive of El Mal Querer. Given all the things she's done since that album dropped, I imagine her next album to be much more of a pop affair.

And @Waitressboy - I can see why you’re like “Bad Bunny, seriously?” because it might seem like super commercial, disposable reggaeton/Latin trap........but actually I think the production and overall sound of X 100PRE sounded really smooth, stylish, and the trap sounds are airy and not harsh. VMP must have known that X 100PRE is a bop!

I think I should clarify my original post.
I wasn't talking about people who like reggaeton and/or Bad Bunny -I hate reggaeton, but it was not the point of my post. My incredulity was because VMP was the last company in the world that I imagined would do an album like this. I mean, Storf was just talking shit about Tool last week. From my perspective, VMP was always the "cool" subscription, almost a hipster one. Then doing a Bad Bunny exclusive seemed just... weird.

But poptimism is cool and they've run plenty of trap exclusives in the past

Wasn't sure about it either, then I realized that it's announced for October, so most probably November or December, and I could get the black version home by the end of the month.
While I love Dolly and needed a copy of Jolene. Let’s not bury the Lede. This appears to be the first reissue of ‘Both Sides Now” since it’s initial release in any format. That seems wrong but I am not finding any others on Discogs. This album is a worthy add for “Gotta Get Drunk” by itself. Needless to say I copped the bundle and yeah I probably won’t actually receive any of these until December but that’s fine, I’ve already made it this long.

mmmm I totally see what you mean! I think VMP doing Bad Bunny only makes them look more hipster because they are doing Blue Note titles, some country titles from the 70’s, some old-school pop/R&B titles from the 90’s, some Brazilian albums from the 70’s but they still mainly stick to indie/alternative as at least 50% of their exclusives (not counting the ROTM’s) are indie. So to have something like Bad Bunny is a bit badass and cool, especially when VMP focuses quite a lot on jazz!

But yeah, I definitely see where you’re coming from now! A lot of us would’ve thought exactly the same when we saw that Bad Bunny exclusive.

VMP doing Bad Bunny is pretty cool to me even though that I have never listened to him. Def wont get it. But as a latinx i appreciate the representation.

I'm just waiting for my Weyes Blood shipping confirmation. It's so close, I can feel it!

Any idea what the prestige records are going to be?
This is all we have:
"In honor of the label’s 70th anniversary of bringing iconic jazz releases from artists like Etta Jones, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis and more, Vinyl Me, Please is partnering on four color reissues of gems from the Prestige catalog."
"Saxophone Colossus is the first in four planned titles with Prestige, each arriving before the end of fall. Expect big-voiced singers, multi-instrument masterpieces, and the beginnings of free jazz."

I wonder if it's as simple as the three named people (Rollins, Jones, and Davis) along with Dolphy to fill the "beginnings of free jazz" promise.

Etta Jones would be great; if it is her, I'd assume it would be Don't Go to Strangers as that's her only Prestige album that's been remastered and VMPs Prestige series looks to just be colour variants, rather than true exclusives.

All Miles' and quite a bit of Dolphy's Prestige stuff has been reissued multiple times. I have several from the AP reissue campaign and Newbury colour variants. But so was Saxophone Colossus, so I'm sure we'll get Steamin' or something like that for Miles and At the Five Spot or Out There for Dolphy. It would be funny if the Dolphy title is Outward Bound as I got the AP version of that as a Swap from VMP a couple years back.

I have a feeling that it will be Out There, as that much more closely follows the 'beginning of free jazz' description. Also, I just bought that AP version of Outward Bound and don't want it to be that.

You called it... Don’t Go to Strangers and Out There it is!

If I were to swap this upcoming month, would you guys go for Call Me or Veedon Fleece? Both have been in and out of stock and seem to have been magically repressed recently. I already have both Al Green's Greatest Hits and Astral Weeks (not really going deep here, but still).

Leaning toward Call Me. Would love to get a consensus for what was the better package.

I’d recommend going for Call Me. Both are great albums but the remaster of Veedon Fleece isn’t great and the pressing itself is super noisy. At least the 4 copies I have are. 5th on the way now.

Yeah, I know that much. I just know we have some sleauths who have found out the records before they are released
