Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Man this Harold Wheeler album is unfortunately great

Internationals: How's that VMP pricing at your locals?
Seems in Toronto titles are showing up for $50/$60CAD for 1LP/2LP. Much cheaper than those international subs, but as @Mather pointed out you're missing out on CS replacements if you want to roll the dice on picking up any.
Single LP’s are $40 and doubles are $50 at my local but there is no way I’m ever buying any of them due to the lack of replacements that would most definitely be required.

if you like the album (and you should, it's fucking *wonderful*), their version is 45RPM and a completely different cut than the more readily available version. I have both and it is definitely better/quieter/clearer. IIRC it's an RKS cut? I don't remember who did the 33 1-LP cut.
It’s great that there’s a market for records like this… but I just don’t hear it. It’s virtuosity and internal leanings initially sound like superior New Age music. And that impression only changes when the rare sax solos cut through. Other than those moments, it’s a little boring. I know I’m very much in the minority in feeling this way about the record though.

That’s the way I felt about Andre 3000’s flute album. There is a whole subset of Jazz in this vein now with acts like Carlos Nino and Nala Sinephro. My AOTY by Amaro Freitas is this same sort of atmospheric ambient jazz. It stems from the work of like Alice Coltrane. I dig it.

You are not alone. I agree 100% with you. I can get down with the ambient/spiritual jazz subgenres, but there are too many lulls in the tracklist. I don't even think the features, as stacked as the lineup is, do much to sway my enjoyment.

Not because it's musically impenetrable, but because it is rather uninvolving. I don't think the emotional connection is there.

I feel the same way about this as I did when Charles Gayle put out a series of great records on sax and then switched to solo piano. It's not that he's not capable of the switch, it was just different and didn't connect the same for my listening.

I really liked the Amaro Freitas, but thought the Shabaka and the Andre 3000 were... lacking. They just didn't pull me in. I imagine repeated listens might hit differently, but I haven't felt compelled to try with how much other music I have to listen to.

That new Nala Sinephro is also an example I think worthy of praise. I like the Shabaka but it does not connect with me as powerfully as Freitas. Freitas made an album that packs an unusual emotional punch for an album without vocals.

I saw Andre 3000 at a festival in the summer. The whole vibe was really chill and everyone was sat down in front of the stage. Next thing I knew my mate was shaking me awake. 4 out of the 8 of us had fallen asleep listening to him play :ROFLMAO:

No lie back in the day I use to smoke a lot of weed and drink a ton before going to shows which was fine most of the time when I was dancing and rocking out but when I would go to a more jammy/jazzy show like Moe or Medeski Martin & Wood I would doze off for large portions of their noodling jams.

I’ve never seen Braveheart. EVERY time I have ever tried to watch, no matter the time or day, somewhere in the middle of the opening credits, I zonk out until the closing credits start.

THEY CAN TAKE OUR LIVES, BUT THEY CAN NEVER TAKE OUR FREEDOM!

There, you've seen Braveheart.
No, I’ve read your suspect summary. These were not helpful:

2001 A Space Odyssey - “astronaut meets elderly self in white room.”

Silence of the Lambs - “Guy enjoys Chianti and Fava beans.”

American Psycho - “autobiographical tale about Huey Lewis fan.”

Inception “dude dreams about tops”
