Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Pretty insane to watch the thing that brought us all together just go up in flames, huh?

The old VMP forum represented the community spirit around music/vinyl that VMP originally claimed they wanted to build. When they dumped us in such an unceremonious way Needles&Grooves showed in a small but satisfying way what can happen when a group of people come together to save something they believe in. Still makes me smile 😀

And, like u said the Monster died a slow death while Needle&Grooves lives on. Time to pull out that old Steppenwolf LP.

this is not true. if it’s a preorder that has gone past the preorder date and VMP is not responding to your emails, many cards will still process chargebacks. People have even been reporting successful chargebacks on remainders of subscriptions given that VMP didnt mail them anything out last month.
Seconding this. I had Bandbox chargebacks 6+ months after. I’ll be doing this if (when, really) my Fela box doesn’t show up.

I found out about VMP when they announced Demon Days shortly after I started collecting vinyl so a lot of their pressings were some of the earliest records in my collection. Say what you want about the direction the company went over the last couple of years, but when the forums were around, they really offered a great service and fostered a really great community. Whether you want to admit it or not, the fact that a lot of us are still active around here is just pretty damn awesome.

I think they were unfortunately a victim of not only hubris, but I think once more labels realized there was a market for higher end, remastered, "exclusive" pressings (call them what you want to), it became harder for VMP to sell their brand as more labels just started doing their own pressings. I feel like we see it with record store day too... at least in the hip-hop sphere, labels like Get On Down or even smaller indie labels will be regularly doing reissues of the types of albums people would be asking VMP to press back when the forums existed.

All this said, I wonder what's going to happen to all the remaster plates that were created over the years? A lot of their albums could be considered the definitive pressings (as of now at least), and there's more than a few that I'd still love to purchase (or re-purchase for that matter) if they're acquired by a label and pressed somewhere other than GZ

The fact that records prices went crazy in the recent years also leaded majors to start their own subscription service. They probably understood that collectors would not be able to collect all kind of reissues series from every source and every company. By offering a subscription service with high standard quality levels, they somehow secured this part of the business because they also know part of us are collectors but also completionist.

If you signed up for demon days via reddit that was probably through my referral. I broke their referral system on that one. It was fun

Just called amex. Made a chargeback on the def jam box. They credited my account instantly and if vmp doesn't respond to them by the middle of July (lol) the matter is closed. For my 3 months of orders through membership credit it's a little trickier so I'll have to see what happens. $45 of it is probably safe to say gone with the Budos band pre-order. I'm expecting May's credit to hit my account. The question is if I place an order with credit if they'll ship the items. I'm guessing yes but time will tell
