Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Can someone explain this whole buckets thing? It sounds like fun
a roughly cylindrical open container with a handle, made of metal or plastic and used to hold and carry liquids

or

a criteria applied arbitrarily by our good friends at VMP to determine the timing of the shipment of pre-ordered records.
es. I got put in the last bucket despite being a customer for 2 full years and therefore have to wait for the record to be re-pressed while flippers are selling their stock at incredibly inflated prices, simply because of VMP friends completely mismanaged their supplies and allowed more orders than existing product.

Similar: clusterfuck/shitty mess/TOTS/BOTS

And then there was the added part where I first received a shipping notice for the record, only to be told later that no, it was not in fact in transit, and I was actually in the last and rustiest of the buckets

and then two months later the forum was dead. I always wondered if the huge, justified, rage over that one was the final straw that broke the camels back. Particularly as the release itself should have been something to be proud of, a real “look what we can do” and then their lack of logistics fucked it up.

I feel like you hit on part of the strategy here. It’s not just “oh sorry we screwed up and you won’t get the record you paid for because we sent it to someone else” - there’s this whole gamifying aspect that they apply to these disasters to make it seem less like they’re not delivering something that you paid for when they told you it would be delivered to you. It also allows them to do some world-building so you feel like each broken promise is instead like a different level in a video game that’s filled with wonder and beauty and new possibilities to excite and surprise you.

Absolutely. That episode was especially jarring and annoying because of the hype around that release. By the time I finally received the record two months later no one was talking about it anymore. If what they were selling was not just a piece of music but the whole community/club aspect, it was impossible to be a part of it. I think I spun it once after I got it and haven't picked it up since. Big swing and a miss.

It's a real good album you should give it another spin.
