Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I'm not sure why people think this is weird. Back when VMP used to do curated titles, weren't they more expensive than something you could find much cheaper elsewhere? I think the only time I bought a curated title was when they had a sale. If I remember right, Acoustic Sounds was doing some cross promotion on social media for VMP when either the Blue Note or Motown Anthology was being released. For AP, it's probably more about getting their products in front of more eyeballs.

I think these stupid prices and the $70 madness for a 2 LP Whitney album is their way of testing out a new price point. ‘What will these schmucks actually pay for a record?’

i had a similar conversation (in my head) when i visited Harry Potter world a few yrs ago and encountered the ResinWand Shop (surely cost pence to make)
Now whenever the words (what will these schmucks pay for this” is uttered i think of those wands.
FYI - I was pre-warned and bought two amazing wands in lovely boxes for a few quid on Ebay. Not that i would have paid £50 for them in that shop but still - i had very happy Girls.

....not for nothing, but I don't believe AP has a 45 RPM of Someday My Prince Will Come.

EDIT: There is a small blurb on this listing on the AS site "Praising their 45 RPM pressings", but this pressing is not 45 RPM............if it is, I'll take it for $35 at AS.............and $39 at VMP (Plus waiting a month to get it)

Also is pet sounds mono 45 better sounding than 33

I also wondered about just buying a stereo copy plus with these expensive audiophile mono pressings I keep thinking you need a mono cartridge

I’d bet my retirement that Chad Kassem would never sell QRP to VMP.
QRP, Acoustic Sounds and Analogue Productions are all under the same umbrella. Chad Kassem’s umbrella.
They sure are good friends though

Enough that vmp can just claim it was their pressing plant despite using Gz 70% of the time (and that's a conservative guess)

Maybe a couple of bucks, but from what I remember I don't think they were available for that much cheaper elsewhere. Didn't they used to actually adjust prices occasionally when people would point out that the title could be found for less?

I would look for posts to confirm/deny my recollection, but whaddyaknow, looks like the forum got shut down!

We have our own club here. A member chooses an album, we guess, the winner gets the album free of charge, we discuss. It's fun.

And to @everyone else - it isn't Spam if the question about another club is asked! Leave me be.

They did! They would drop the price if people found it cheaper! I do remember that. That was when they actually fostered a community.

They also said their store was a place for members to get these curated titles for less, as a perk to members. Most stuff was around $17. And they said they wouldn't ever have more than ... was it 12.... curated albums per month.

That lasted, oh, as long as everything else VMP has promised and then reneged on.

They used to sell Mofi’s in the store and they marked them up $20-$40 per record. I bought the one step of Marvin Gaye- What’s going on for $165 While it was on sale from Music Direct for $125. Don’t look at me like that...it was all store credit.

It’s just a bizarre business strategy now. I don’t understand it. They got rid of curated store records because nobody was buying them. Now they will just have even more expensive records sitting there alongside the Whitney Houston box and stacks of the Woodstock box set.

Either VMP is getting a massive cut of the sales price here or they're trying to foster a relationship in order to maybe do a color variant of an AP press soon. Similar to VMP Pinkerton.

Or maybe VMP isn't even warehousing them. Maybe they're just hosting a purchase point and they'll still ship from AP's spot.

It is but the 33 is no slouch. I prefer original LP replicas so I don't have to flip the album 2 more times, but if you are going for strictly sound quality 45s are almost always superior sounding. Mono Pet Sounds is the way to go too — that's how Brian Wilson intended it.

Most stuff was around $17.

I miss this so much. I remember when I first joined and there was an apology message from Cam about how they had a couple of store titles that month that they couldn't do $17 on, and unfortunately they would have to be sold for $19. HOOO BOY how things have changed. Obviously not all VMP's fault, since prices are getting out of control across the board, but those were sure simpler times.
