I, also, did it. The studio is out of stock at Sam Records, and I still have a few here at WBC.
The two album are very different and close at the same time. Strange and nice listening experience.
 
As an aside, I was unfamiliar with Jef Gilson before now, but as I was perusing my discogs profile I was surprised when I saw I did have a record in my collection that he contributed to: Lloyd Miller's Oriental Jazz!

I completely forgot that Miller had teamed up with Gilson for a brief time in the early 1960s and that a couple of tracks Gilson recorded got included on Oriental Jazz, although Gilson himself doesn't perform on it.

So then I wondered if the two ever put out an album together and sure enough, Miller performed alongside the Jef Gilson Septet for an album in 1961. Cool, I wonder how much a copy of that would cost...

So umm... if the guy running Sam Records is open to suggestions, I've got a reissue request for him to consider...

Edit: a very young Henri Texier is on this record, too!

Well, it is much more affordable in €. 😂

Joke aside, Fred from Sam Records (Sam is the first name of his son btw) has a lot of surprise for 2021. He is working just for making repress affordable for anyone, but with perfect pressing.
Studio Davout and live à Gaveau has been possible because he has the blessing of Jef Gilson's Legacy. I did not speak with him about this 10" Septet, but I don't know why it could not be made.

I already said it here, but Sam Records is one of the best Jazz Label in the world.

I also like that INA (Audiovisual National Institue) is collaborating to release live recordings of jazz and French artists. I've seen a few Léo Ferré, Gainsbourg, Barbara (all French legends) live recordings released in the last couple of years and these last Sam Records are from INA archives too. There are certainly more treasures to me found and I am glad great labels like Sam are on it.

Well, not all the INA release are worth to be released. The Gainsbourg à la Maison de la Radio, with INA and Diggers Factory is quite good. But some others are... bad.

I definitely appreciate what he's been doing with Sam Records, and am looking forward to getting more titles in my collection. I hope you'll be getting more releases next year (both in the store and as WBC exclusives) as you're probably the most affordable way I can get some of these records over in the States.
