Hampton Hawes - For Real! (Contemporary Records, 1984 UK pressing)
A PERFECT session from Hawes and his side-men (Scott La Faro kills it!). I often feel like Hampton Hawes was underappreciated/overlooked but he really shouldn't be. His autobiography is also worth a mention, its a great book!
So, I’m done working for the day. I’ve done my chores. I’ve got dinner working... what to do what to do? Oh... yeah, I’ve got a bunch of records that aren’t even out yet!
so, I really liked the first album but wondered about how much the various collaborations colored it as I’ve been underwhelmed by both of their solo work. Together, they’re pretty damn fine. (Still could use a heavy dash of Thile though )
