What's Spinning

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!
#202: Brian Owens & The Deacons of Soul - Soul of Ferguson

#203: Anderson Paak - Malibu

My collection #344

The Beatles - Mono Masters

The Beatles mono boxset comes to an end. But fun to look through the great book that comes with it. And there's plenty more Beatles to come once I get through the As to the B section... EDIT: Blimey, Revolution is mastered loud. Almost took off the ceiling chez Poly-Rythmo

Lee Morgan - Vol. 3 (Blue Note, 1957 First Mono Pressing)

I am partaking in a desert island discs over Microsoft Teams with work. We have been taking it in turns to post our top 8 singles, book, and luxury item and my choices are to be put up soon. Hasaan's Dream has been a favourite since I first heard it so I imagine I will include that. I currently have all but 2 choices (which I reserved for jazz) so looking to fill those spots, its very very tricky though.

Well, that was a surprise, I just flipped this over to side two and apparently it is a completely different artist. I Shazamed it and apparently it is an electronic artist Lilacs & Champagne press at 33 rpms (FJM is at 45prms). Thankfully this was a PIF pick up from @Fleetwood-Matt and I still have my black copy so no harm no foul I suppose. Still strange. The first time I have had this sort of thing happen. For the record Lilac & Champagne are alright but definitely not FJM.

Holy shit man I had no idea. I didnt play it after buying it and I just checked the original discogs listing and it didnt say anything about that there. I'm super sorry about that!

LOL, No worries. I just gotta decide what I wanna do with it now. Probably sell it to Half Priced Books or something. It took me a half-click to figure it out. I was like, I don’t recall any downbeat electronic instrumental interludes on this album. Then when I tried to run it through Shazam to figure it would not initially read it since it was playing at the wrong RPM. Again not a bid deal, Thankfully I hadn’t moved my black copy yet.
