Men At Work- Cargo
MoFi Silver Series 590/?

The Men At Work MoFis are rather disappointing, but Cargo sounds better with my recent system upgrades. I still wouldn’t buy these- an original pressing sounds great.

I always wondered and I’m guessing you might know - what does the silver series indicate? Digital mastering in the chain?

It's when they haven't used the Original Tape , sometimes digital may be involved, I believe Ryan Adams Love Is Hell uses the Original Tapes for the album, but Digital files for the extra tracks .

I think their official statement is 'The best source available", but ya, digital is definitely involved.

Interesting, thanks. Kind of seems like they’re letting this series die off? I haven’t noticed anything new under the silver label for a long time.

It doesn’t necessarily mean digital. It could be a copy of the master tape. It’s definitely at least one generation removed from the original master. At least.

The Silver Series are hit or miss. Men At Work is a waste of money. The Bob Dylan 45s are awesome though.

If the strip on the top of the jacket says “Original Master Recording” it’s from the master tape. If it says “Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab” it’s Silver Series, whether or not they use the term anymore.
